Hi Guys. Can I get your opinion on the placement of the Dash Cam Installed by my local Toyota Dealer. I find it to be out of place. I was expecting it to be installed closer to the back of the rear view mirror where it will be more out of sight. Thanks!

Is that the Toyota dash Cam? It looks a lot different from the one that was port installed. And yes, it isn’t even close to being in the correct potions. Mine is snug up close to the mirror on the driver side. Good luck!

Like zgreen said, it doesn't look like the standard toyota dash cam. Can you post what the make/model of the dash cam is? That's a truly bizarre "middle of nowhere" place to mount it, but maybe there are buttons or SD slot on the side and you wouldn't be able to easily press/see the buttons without it being so far to the right. Also, depending where the lens is, if you wanted to leave it on the passenger side, it's possible it could be moved higher as long as the lens isn't looking thru the dot grid on the windshield.

Note that while most people don't bother looking up laws on dash cam placement, there are some weird and very constraining ones in some places. Given the fairly large size of this one, maybe in your location the law says it has to be to the right of center because it would obstruct view too much on the left?

It is from a Toyota Dealership in BC, Canada. The Service advisor gave a photo of what is supposed to be a guideline from Toyota on How to install the Camera. The point I made
To the dealership was I was expecting my camera to get installed the was Toyota Advertised it on their website. Not to be installed pratically directly in front of rhe passengers line of sight. Ill send photo of the installation instructions as well as what I thought it would look like.

Per your pictures above, they gave you the old model from 2023. The two pics from the bottom, where the unit has the red “action” button, that is the latest model and where it should be mounted. It looks like the dealer was maybe trying to slip by the older model on you….

I looked up the FCC ID. That dashcam is from late 2016. They're trying to pull a fast one. A person probably couldn't get $50 for that dashcam on ebay even if it were unopened in its original box. Dashcams have advanced significantly since then.

Even if this a new version. Yours is not in the same position as the one in the instructions. Can you show the work order so we can see the part number

Thanks for the info. I will be speaking with the dealership tomorrow and have this rectified.

Hello Vincenzo. Here’s the work order.

That was expensive for the old unit. The brand new one was $499, port installed on mine, and I feel like I overpaid for what it was. There are plenty of really fantastic aftermarket options out there, that are more robust than the Toyota offerings...
