Hey guys,
Before you pre-order your 4runner make sure you know what regional version of soft-tex seats you are getting. The ones up in the NorthEast are the soft feeling black digital camo type you see on the Toyota site and in most review videos. The ones down in Texas are totally different. They look and feel like perforated leather with yellow/gold contrast stitching. Someone post pics of each so people can see the difference. No one wants to put a deposit and have something they don't like arrive and be stuck with, or less their deposit and have to start their search again
The “ones down in Texas” are likely just aftermarket covers, not factory Softex.

I know there’s a difference in the Tacoma soft Tex (assembled in Mexico) and the 4Runner soft Tex (assembled in Japan). But I wasn’t aware of two different soft Tex within the Japan built 4Runners. Are we sure about this or is the confusion Tacoma vs 4Runner?

I would recommend reviewing the .pdf at

Steveo doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

there is cloth, SofTex leather and leather

the softex leather is more durable long term than the leather with less maintenance.

if you can get SofTex vs leather, i would go with SofTex

Key Features and Benefits:
  • Mimics Leather:
SofTex is designed to look and feel like genuine leather, including the grain and sheen.

    • Durability and Resistance:
It's highly resistant to stains, scratches, and fading.
    • Easy Cleaning:
SofTex is relatively easy to clean with a damp cloth or an alcohol-based cleaner.
    • Lightweight:
SofTex is about half the weight of conventional leather, which can contribute to fuel efficiency.
    • Heat-Shedding:
SofTex is less likely to burn the user than leather and may stay cooler in the sun.
    • Environmentally Friendly:
The production process generates fewer emissions and doesn't involve animal products.
    • No Special Maintenance:
Unlike leather, SofTex doesn't require regular conditioning or special care.
SofTex vs. Leather:
    • Appearance: SofTex can closely resemble leather, but some may prefer the look and feel of genuine leather.
    • Cleaning: SofTex is generally easier to clean and maintain.
    • Heat: SofTex may stay cooler in the sun than leather.
    • Weight: SofTex is significantly lighter than leather.
    • Cost: SofTex is often less expensive than genuine leather.
