Soooooooo
Sorry for taking a bit to respond but the ride back home unfolded as follow:
- departure 5h30 am / outside temp -25’C / Battery temp: -3’C (probable residual heat from last night DCFC charge up to 85%
- 963 km / 4 charging stops / charging speeds as high as 251 k! but mainly in the...
Youyou know what?
After all those discussions, I think this is just what I will do. I’ll charge up to te nearest DCFC when I return from dinner, go to bed early and hit the road and play it by ear thereafter!
I’ll let the PCM guide me… Use the seat heater +++
If interested, I’ll keep you...
And what do you think of this alternative:
Let the car sit overnight at 90% SoC
Right after leaving, hit the very close DCFC charge and get it up to 100% and get the battery temp up at the same time. It will probably charge v e r y s l o w l y as the battery will be very cold upon arrival...
This is very interesting!
although my SoC at charger destination is set low (not as low as yours, mostly 10%), I will often override the planned charging staton so to reach a better one selected by NAV (location, kW, etc). I still program it in the NAV but maybe I should aim at charging at a...
I have put up a suggested scenario where one tries to increase battery temps upon departure when the car is unplugged and weather is cold.
- start the car, set a fast charger in NAV and wait, standing still for 30 minutes, to get the heat pump warm the HV battery, to increase range.
My question...
That is when the car is planned (via NAV) to be plugged at a charging station.
Unplugged, heating the cabin has a very limited effect on battery temp.
And I politely disagree on your comment about battery temp having no effect on range.
Please rad again
The car will not be plugged to any charging infrastructure upon departure.
It will be max DC charged the night before.
preconditioning the cabin while the car is unplugged has NO effect on battery temp.
Will be driving back home on Monday morning
1100+ Km
Polar cold with expected temps around -15’C
No level 2 charging option from where I will depart (there are 65 kW and Tesla SC 5 km away….)
I will charge up to 80-90% with those the night before.
Therefore I will have to leave cold turkey!
I...
Thank you very much @ron_b !
This is a very pertinent informative post. It also explains my deception…
It gave me a chance to try that brand new NACS adapter, and got me a sweet revenge towards all those Tesla boys with their own NACS to CCS adapters charging at « our » non-telsa chargers...
FAST?
I recently charged at a Tesla location, although it was cold at -5’C, the battery was pre-conditioned and max I got was 135 kW….
Not the best conditions but got much higher at other 180/250 Kw
I was also told that the heated windshield was ordered, 4GR - Heated windshield shows up on the order paper work but I am still unsure whether it is there or not. Searches with VIN # are not conclusive, and even with actual winter, when I drive, I still get an icing windshield......
