I bought my 2025 sr5 4runner 4x4 in February. It was the first one my local dealer had so I’d made sure I jumped on it. I also have a 2023 that my wife drives. At around 3000 miles. I noticed there was a burning smell anytime I have my driver window cracked and the back window open. The smell only happens when the turbo kicks in so if I’m getting on the freeway or lightly pressing on the gas in the turbo kicks in, you can smell a burning smell which changes to a rotten egg smell along with the burning smell. I took the truck to the dealer and they checked it out. They had another 2025 there which they said smelled as well so they basically said it’s the way the car is. I switched up different octane levels and different gas stations and the spell is still there. There’s no error codes and the dealer claim they check everything that had to do with the fuel levels. I’m hoping I’ll get an exhaust dump soon, so maybe that’ll fix it. I’m also thinking it’s because they might’ve changed the exhaust from the passenger side in previous years and it’s now on the driver side rear. The smell slowly been getting worse so I reached out to Toyota corporate and I know there aren’t enough on the road yet to have a recall. Has anyone else experienced this??

if you have the rear window open and any forward windows open, the vacuum you create will suck in the exhaust from the rear window thru the cabin and out the front windows.

trust me, i roll my rear window down all the time and have the driver window open. it will suck all manner of air and dust/dirt from the rear.

my interior is coated in dust and the headliner is dirty.

but meh, i decided on this 4R i would enjoy the rear window down. but the price is a dirty interior all the time.

I see you have already replied in the other thread about the smells, but not sure if you've seen this thread as well: https://www.4runner6g.com/forum/threads/oil-chemical-smell-within-the-first-100-miles.2823/

Absolutely get a second opinion and visit some other dealers. Always be skeptical about what a single service dept tells you.

Also, sorry for the off topic but how did you get your hands on Prerunner wheels?? I have to bring it up, they are rare as hens teeth and there are a few of us looking for them across 4R and Taco forums. Or are they Taco OR wheels with a vinyl kit

Thank you for the reply! Those are 18 inch trd off road rims and wheels that I got from someone online. I had them powder coated satin black. They came with the stock sr5 wheels which I quickly removed.

Thanks for the pic of powder coating the standard TRD OR 18" wheels. It looks good. I am considering this for my ORP but it seems impractical if the wheels are on the vehicle. Apparently the prep and powdercoating of 4 (or 5) wheels can take 7-10 days and most powdercoat shops are not also tire shops so you have to bring them bare wheels with TPMS and weighs removed, then take their result with your tires and TMPS to a tire shop to then remount on your vehicle.

I think I concluded it's far less hassle, and probably not much price difference after all is said and done, to just find/buy the black TRD Pro wheels and get it all done at a tire shop in one session. But I think you've made a good showing that if someone does replace the standard TRD OR wheels, it might help resale value/time if you got them powdercoated first.
