We drove to SW Pa last week, got 24 to 26 during trip.
Ok, maybe a Florida to PA kind of road trip is what I need to do to see that kind of MPG. When I say I do most highway, it is my 30 minutes commute to and from work each day but lately, with road construction, it has been a bit more stop and go. I have 3K miles on mine now. I forget, what is the advertised or sticker mileage estimates for these new, gas (non-hybrid) 6 Gens? I have the TRD Sport.

Ok so there is hope. I will try resetting the average mpg. I also see you have it in Eco mode.

Yes been in eco from brand new, my guess is this motor is tuned for the SR5 for peak efficiency, plus I live in central Indiana so not many hills. Bigger tires, no air dam, lift, location, driving style seem to affect this motor allot according to this website.

small gas tanks on the new 4RUnners. 5th gen I think has 23 gallon tanks. 6th gen are 18/19
But the new one get 5 miles better gas mileage
Guys. I continue to be puzzled. Do not get me wrong, I love my SR5….but when I fill up the dash shows 305 miles to empty. Is this a tank size issue or a bad reading somewhere?
My pilot V6 used to get about 420 miles to empty when the tank was full.

Am i missing anything? Forgive me if this has been answered before.

thx
I’m puzzled too. Is that city miles or highway mileage. If you times 25mpg with a 19 gallon tank it 475 miles.

I think it is miles to empty which is somewhere in the low 17 gallons when the computer says you have 0 miles left. 19 gallons Is absolute volume of the gas tank I think. you do not want to drive it totally out of gas

There is way to reset the tracking of the average so I am guessing it is from the last reset. Seems logical but one can never be too sure. I don't see how you could be getting 24.1 MPG. I am at 20.1 and I do mostly highway.
I also get over 24mpg and I live in northern va

Nice. I am jealous. Of course, I didn't buy a 4Runner to get 50 MPG like my wife gets in her hybrid Camry, but still, they got this depression on, so I gots to get mine. (LOL, quote from O' Brother Where Art Thou).

For the people concentrating on what it says regarding how many miles you can travel on a full tank, isn't it best to simply monitor your MPGs, like Larin?

Eco mode only? Dang. Like another mentioned, seems like in eco mode, need to put the foot on the pedal more. But it looks like it's been working for you. I only throw mine in eco during bumper-to-bumper traffic. Currently at 20mpg.

Summer road trip 2025 in our new 2025 4Runner, TRD Off Road, iForceMax, 4WD(built in Tahara Plant Japan). I removed the air dam prior to our trip. I used 87 octane, 2 ppl with luggage, bottled water, ice chest and 3 suitcases (estimate weight 450 lbs.). We ran the air conditioner 90% of the time. Our average speed freeway was 70-90 mph for a total of 2,192 miles driven:

Boise ID to Vegas NV

2025 Toyota 4runner 305 miles to empty with full tank ? 2025 4Runner iForceMax TRD off road

Vegas NV to Eddie World (Yermo CA) and on to San Diego CA

San Diego CA to Disneyland CA

Disneyland CA to Reno NV

Reno NV back to Boise ID.

Our average MPG was between 19.1 to 19.3 per gallons.

The bad: The smaller gas tank SUCK (19 gallon tank)! What was Toyota thinking! We never once hit anywhere near the 23/24 MPG listed.

The good: Excellent passing power! This 4Runner moves!

I know ... seems like I'm always filing up ... 19 gals is crazy.. My hybrid says 315 on a fill up
16 city / 19 highway mpg actually on the 5th gen

i actually avg 17-18 mpg per tank since i mostly commute at 75 mph to/from work 4 days a week 15 miles 1-way.

i get about 375/425 miles tank on cross country trips on my 2014 limited, depending on winds and how much i want to stay near the speed limit (SD kills my mpg since the speed limit is 80 when i travel to see mom in atlanta, ga from ND. i usually take i29 south to kansas city and cut across to TN and down to ATL)

but during normal around town driving i barely get 300 per tank.

dont go by the display, it will ebb and flow depending on your driving habits from the previous tank.

Change MPG to Trip Average NOT Total Average and see what it says. Let me know.
