Ryan Decker, Scout Motors' strategy director, emphasized the company's commitment to owner-repairable vehicles: "Well, the number we put out there was that over 80% of repair orders are capable in fields. That means in a customer’s driveway or literally in fields."

What types of repairs or maintenance do you see yourself doing on your own Scout?

Maintenance and repairs……As much as Scout Motors will let me. I’m a hands on kind of owner. Love learning and knowing everything about my vehicle. Owners willing to learn and help each other. That’s what makes the Scout community so strong. I wish more Auto companies would give the owner more support in DIY warranty repairs and general services. Help me help you…..

I'll rebuild a battery pack if I need to.
Hate to be "that guy" because I would love to work on everything, but:
I wonder if Scout has considered the liability issues with encouraging/allowing customers to work on an 800V internal system. Statistically, it is going to kill some of us.

I think we should keep it realistic. Obviously certain systems will be off limits….

I'd like to repair most things like my current Jeep - axles, gears, brakes/rotors, clearly maintain the EREV engine, body parts...I'll be as hands on as they'll let me get away with. Electronics are not off-topic, but without access to a wiring schema or code (ha! like they would even allow that) then not much one could do from that front, likely wouldn't want to either.

Some of you may die, but that's a risk they're willing to take!

Kidding, but check out some videos of people doing battery work. It really isn't that bad. A battery is a battery. Check out Edd China fixing a Nissan.

I would guess that the 800V electrical system is included in the 20% that Scout considers to not be serviceable by the vehicle owner.

Big deal now is right to repair laws being passed or promoted in states.
Maybe it plays to that and being owner friendly maintenance.

Really, under normal conditions, how much maintenance and repair will there be? At least 80% outside of the manufacturer repair facility is not an unreasonable expectation for a BEV.

I have a 2013 Nissan Leaf. I have only replaced tires and wiper blades. It was a lease return. The dealer replaced one front strut that was making noise, and the Main Battery pack, both under warranty.

I wouldn't think maintenance items, I'd think fenders, bumpers, axles...things that can bust when wheeling.

Drive by and look into a Tesla repair facility.
I did at the Westlake Ca location.
Cars waiting repair backed-up 1/8 acre, and cars torn apart on HUGE the shop floor.

The perfect car has not been produced yet.
Add a OHV and we're going to see some mulligans.
