Is your squeak as bad as the video above?Well, my Pro just started squeaking in reverse a few days ago. Usually it’s pretty dry up in NW Montana, but it’s been a bit humid as of late and it’s been happening. Will let the service center know!
Whoever was filing this atrocity nailed it; ”That’s not normal”This is the infamous issue right now, for everyone else that might squeak once in a blue moon thats normal. That squeal is pretty bad
I didn't know Toyota had anything to do with Akebono, that's a concern as they used to be great pads so hoping these aren't what's in the new T4R and causing the issue. I had a slight squeal in my '16 Tundra and the Akebono pads took care of that; they were quiet and much better than the OEMs at that time.I don't yet (knock on wood) have any squeal but one question I've not seen addressed is whether it's exclusively the front brakes that squeal, or exclusively the rear, or both. This may be hard to confidently pinpoint with just your ears and you may need a sound meter with directional microphone to be certain.
Another question, but this may never get an answer, is whether Toyota uses the exact same pad on all 4runner trims, or whether they may use one of several pads from different makers, treating them all as interchangeable; whatever they get the best price on at the time. This might explain why some have it and some don't, but another unknown is what affect the way the driver brakes from it being a new vehicle impacts whether they end up squealing or not.
The factory pads may not have markings identifying the manufacturer. Toyota owns a stake in Akebono so they may use Akebono pads, but Toyota has also used Sumitomo and possibly others. Like with tires, the pads Toyota buys in bulk may be some cheaper variant with the same name as a retail pad.
Not as bad as the video, but it is present. Is your squeak as bad as the video above?
