Does anyone else have brake squeal like this?
This is the infamous issue right now, for everyone else that might squeak once in a blue moon thats normal. That squeal is pretty bad

Well, my Pro just started squeaking in reverse a few days ago. Usually it’s pretty dry up in NW Montana, but it’s been a bit humid as of late and it’s been happening. Will let the service center know!

Is your squeak as bad as the video above?

Whoever was filing this atrocity nailed it; ”That’s not normal”

That is ridiculous, ours hasn't made a sound @2500 miles but if it does that I'll be replacing the pads with Akebono when they come out.

I don't yet (knock on wood) have any squeal but one question I've not seen addressed is whether it's exclusively the front brakes that squeal, or exclusively the rear, or both. This may be hard to confidently pinpoint with just your ears and you may need a sound meter with directional microphone to be certain.

Another question, but this may never get an answer, is whether Toyota uses the exact same pad on all 4runner trims, or whether they may use one of several pads from different makers, treating them all as interchangeable; whatever they get the best price on at the time. This might explain why some have it and some don't, but another unknown is what affect the way the driver brakes from it being a new vehicle impacts whether they end up squealing or not.

The factory pads may not have markings identifying the manufacturer. Toyota owns a stake in Akebono so they may use Akebono pads, but Toyota has also used Sumitomo and possibly others. Like with tires, the pads Toyota buys in bulk may be some cheaper variant with the same name as a retail pad.

I am fairly certain it is just the front brakes after dealing with this for 4000 miles in 3 months. It’s the worst in reverse and always present. However, braking going forward it goes away after driving a bit.

I doubt Toyota will take any action on this since it's not a safety issue. They may even issue a bulletin explaining why this is not abnormal. Even if they did investigate it and find a fix, history shows they take their sweet time resolving even the most simple of issues.

So it's probably going to be up to the owner community to find a solution, e.g. experiment with a 3rd party pad that has a reputation for being quiet, possibly trading off a bit of 60-0 braking performance. StopTech posi-quiet ceramic pads, and I forget the brand but some ceramic/carbon fiber pad are a couple that I've seen (on other, non-toyota vehicles) as fixing squeal issues according to owners.

I am curious if you drove the vehicle when brand new if you did some brake bedding procedures if it would help.
Edit: Also, could this have anything to do with the new electronic parking brakes on these, I know this is the first year they have been on a 4R.

I didn't know Toyota had anything to do with Akebono, that's a concern as they used to be great pads so hoping these aren't what's in the new T4R and causing the issue. I had a slight squeal in my '16 Tundra and the Akebono pads took care of that; they were quiet and much better than the OEMs at that time.

770mi....was backing out of a stall after work. I live in Hawaii...humid, warm, and as of recent, wet from fairly heavy rain showers (Hurricane Season)...I heard a small squeak for the first time yesterday. I think this is not abnormal as all my cars with disk brakes seem to initially squeak after a wash and overnight drying in the garage. No constant squeal though.

I just heard back from my service advisor at Toyota and they're replacing the pads and resurfacing the rotor. Under warranty of course. I'm asking to have new rotors put on

Does anyone know why the poll numbers when added together equal 163.7%?

Because you could check more than one box.
The first 6 probably should have been separated as a "pick one" question that everyone responded to, but some didn't respond to this (these 6 should have totaled 100%). In any case, it still seems a slim majority don't have any squeal (yet?). Not much can be said about specific trims since the "no squeal" part of the poll didn't ask for trim level (and you'd need the total sales by trim to be able to say whether there's anything statistically significant about it, even if the poll had a full breakout by trim).
