This is a known issue with these vehicles. I would wake up the neighborhood backing out of my driveway. The dealership fixed it free of charge and the noise is gone.
So it's fixable. Then I wonder why Toyota didn't just put something that doesn't squeal to begin with, as they already knew what the problem was?
Wouldn't that save them tons of money by not having to do warranty service and parts replacement?

What did they do if you would not mind sharing?

They replaced the front rotors, new brake pads and installed a shim kit. Like I said before, this was a know issue and only happened when backing up, especially in the morning. I haven't had any issue since it was fixed.

Understood, but still, expecting a $70k-$90k truck to be quiet when backing up in the morning (and not waking up everybody around the neighborhood) is not too much to ask ?
lol are we talking about the same vehicle here? I was $47k OTD.

I purchased a 2025 4Runner TRD Sport Premium. At 400 miles I noticed the front brakes screeching in reverse as I backed out of my garage. It progressively became worse. Brought it to my local Toyota dealer around 800 miles and they told me it was normal and part of the bedding in period. I brought it back again at 1,600 miles as it makes the screech all the time when braking in reverse. No repair by the dealership, just created a TAS case waiting on a field engineer to make recommendation. Would love to hear if others have experienced the same, and what their dealership is doing for the fix.

It would be nice for the forum to capture these issues, dealer name, work order number and what was done or note done.

Then, present to tour dealers SD, the area rep and Toyota corp.

I had Ford tell me after a full rotor and pad job that the squeaking was normal. I told him its never made tat noise from new. I then asked him to do a test drive in all the others and lets see if its normal. Result, a second set of pads and rotors, no squeak.

We as owners really need to hold these dealership service departments accountable, all brands. Most owners just let it go and that is rewarding bad behavior and promoting that we will accept poor quality.

If you sense the dealer is not doing his/her job, go up the chain in Toyota until they do.

I get so frustrated with crappy service departments, I I produces work like that or did not make an effort to find root cause, I would have beed fired many years ago.

I believe it’s already a known issue for the Land Cruiser. Hopefully Toyota will step up and issue a repair/recall soon!

Go to 0:25 in the video. This is the crazy squealing that everyone is reporting with the 6g 4Runner when reversing. No TSB yet to my knowledge, dealers and shops have no clue. Fingers crossed Toyota figures it out.

I believe Car Care Nut refers to a complete change in brake system, so it seems as if they have completely screwed something up.

We drove an FJ cruiser for 18 years and every day the brakes squealed while backing out of driveway each morning. Our new 4Runner does it as well

It’s not just backing out of the driveway. It’s doing it more often. Heck today pull up front to get my kid from school in the car line it made the same noise you hear in reverse…. It’s really embarrassing. I can handle brake noise I’ve driven cars for 20 years…. This isn’t normal noise

Just curious if anyone else has this loud brake squeal when backing up before each drive. Its gotten to the point where im ready to take it in for service. I had this same issue with our Fj cruiser we drove for almost 18 years.
Just a quick reply for my situation - I have owned a 2005 Tundra (bought new) and a 2016 Tundra (bought in 2018 with 4K miles on it). Both vehicles did this relentlessly from the day I drove them home. Numerous checks, replaced rotors, pads, you name it. At the end of the day, I was told by (non-dealer mechanics) that this is a common thing with alot of Toyota vehicles. I shrug at that but no one has ever given me a clear reason. I just know that everything is new on my vehicles so I have simply taken it all as is. The squealing only happens in reverse, out of the garage, and stops by the time I use reverse again while out and about. Hope this gives you some peace.

Knock on wood, I haven't had the brake squeal yet. But based on a prior car that did have brake squealing by some percent of owners, particularly in colder temperatures...the "cure" was a different brake pad composition. That had the undesired side effect of increased stopping distance. I chose to live with the squeal, at least until I needed new pads and could choose one of the aftermarket pads that people had installed with no squeal and did not increase stopping distance and in some cases improved it a bit.

Generally, brake squeal is due to insufficient lubrication of the pads and bearing surfaces on the calipers of the brakes system.

I have a BMW with semi metallic pads, brembo style brakes calipers, and giant 14" front discs, it doesn't squeal at all since I replaced the brakes and made extra sure the surfaces are greased correctly with high performance ceramic compound.

Has anyone pulled out a brake pad to check if it's lubed?
