I know that both the app and key fob can remote start the truck while paying for the subscription, but I do not plan on renewing it after the complementary year subscription and hope that I can just remote start my truck from my window. I haven’t found anywhere for sure saying that it will continue to work without the paid plan. Can anyone confirm if it will or won’t. Thanks

It should. Remote start via you key FOB (but not your app) will still work after your subscription ends. I can still remote start my 2020 TRD Pro with my key FOB and I never had a subcription.

Thanks! I was concerned that I had to pay to keep this feature going.

I will say the $100 investment in Carista to roll down windows from your key fob, turn off the engine enhancement sound and other features is a game changer. Took less than 10 minutes and was a great add. The dealer wanted 30 minutes service fee and that covered the cost.

From the FOB?
In Canada you can’t remote start your car from the FOB without a subscription. that’s what the dealer told me? I haven’t got my 4Runner yet so I’m going with what I was told? USA might have different options for all of you, also here if I want the roll down windows from the FOB the dealer does it totally for free.

Wow...That doesn't make sense though, as what does a subscription have to do with a key FOB?

New guy here (not buying until 2026). On my wife's Rav4 the FOB is also a remote starter but the range is terrible. My garage is about 100 feet from my house and I usually have to open the front door and reach out with the FOB to start it. If the 4Runner has this type of remote starting then I would expect it to work after the paid plan expires. What will most likely not work is anything that requires it to connect to the internet. At your house or somewhere else if it can use your (or a free) WiFi connection maybe it'll work. It possibly could use your phone's internet connection but not if it's in your pocket.

The exception would be if Toyota is going to have features that only work if you pay for them. If that's the case I'll just buy an aftermarket remote starter or look for a hack to overcome it. I will NOT pay a subscription. In fact I almost wrote off Toyota after they signed me up for XM. For months they peppered my email with spam wanting me to pay for it.

you can remote start via the fob, but dont be surprised at the limited range. and the button sequence is picky on timing on hitting the buttons.

i mean i have tried to remote start via the fob from the garage and the vehicle was 10 feet on the other side of the door and it still didnt start.

and 1 last thing, remote start via the fob still follows only 2 remote starts and locks out until you unlock and relock the vehicle and limits to 10 mins per remote start.

really going to miss my 25min timer on my 2014 4R remote start (3rd party)

I was told from my dealer Charlesglen in Calgary Canada that the FOB will still work after my subscription expires. I guess I will find out for sure when it expires. The FOB isn't great but it works from inside the house when the truck is on the driveway.
