I have the SR5 variant of the 2025 4Runner. I recently purchased a Carista Evo dongle since I had previously used a similar dongle in the past to modify my 5th gen 4Runner. Figured that I'd check out what options are available in and I found out a bunch of different options that are toggleable.

Some highlights here are:
Disabling seatbelt chime (multiple settings for each seat/row)
Disabling Engine Sound Enhancement (I didn't think my SR5 had it active but the car is notably quieter and less buzzy without this enabled)
Enabling physical key window up and down
Enabling remote all window down (California mode)

Super straightforward to plug in the Carista and it was simple enough to toggle and scroll through these settings. I fully intend on only purchasing a month of their subscription here since you do need it to toggle all of the customizations available. I have yet to find another dongle that can do all of this that doesn't have a subscription so it is what it is.

Attaching some photos of the dongles and user interface. If you guys are interested in a sound comparison between ESE on or off I can see about grabbing one later this week.

Thanks for a detailed write up with great pics! Even I’d know where to plug this thing in now.

So if you don't want a subscription, do the modifications stop working? Or do you need the subscription to have the ability to make new changes?

Can you make the same adjustments with the more basic OBD2 scanner they sell? Or any Bluetooth scanner? Their website isn't very clear. Mostly just says the "evo" scanner is faster and supports different communication protocols, but doesn't actually say if it allows more configuration.

They remain in place as they are written to the cars computer. You could technically buy one, a single month of sub, make the changes you want, and return it. No reason to keep paying for additional months

They have a compatibility list on their site. All of them listed should be usable to make the customizations including a bunch of generic elm327 dongles that link to the app. The only thing you absolutely need is a paid Carista subscription.

Thanks. Just out of curiosity, if that is the case why did you end up buying the fancy adapter?

Tbh I wanted to see if it was meaningfully different than any of the other ones out there. That and it is compatible with Ford and a bunch of American manufacturers so it could come in handy later on. We’ll see if I end up keeping it long term.

Seems like it would be worth hanging onto the dongle at least. If ever you wanted to make future changes, or revert to factory settings for a sale, you could always just pay another subscription for a month.

IMO for a Toyota a generic elm327 is plenty. They are like 9 bucks on ebay

Thank you for all the screenshots! Is that from their Android app? Could you also put it on the truck's monitor display?

I disabled my seat belt chime yesterday, best $61 dollars spent. I'll check into those other options later.
