Exactly, I would not finance a warranty. Just want to make sure I have a ballpark to know what I’m paying is reasonable.
I’m already putting a substantial cash down payment.
You are betting that your vehicle is going to breakdown outside of the warranty. Are you sure this vehicle is for you? (Obviously I am just throwing this out to provoke thought. It is your money and your decision, but if you do any amount of research, you will find that when buying a typically reliable vehicle, an extended warranty is a waste of money.)

SET/GST have their own warranty plans (which fall under that regions financial arm) which i am not sure are valid outside of SET/GST.
The Toyota Platinum Warranty is good across the USA.

I paid a combined total of $4600 for two things for my TRD ORP: (A) additional 100k miles/10yr warranty, and (B) 5 years full service plan. Probably spent too much but after all the expenses I went thru on my 2012 JGC I had no problem paying. I feel I'll get my money back... the 5 year service plan gets me thru their recommended spark plug replacement which is a pricey service fee. Plus, if you're the type of person that is reading these message boards (me), then you are probably also the type of a person (me) that will take advantage of the warranty for more than a couple things.

I am reading these message boards and I have never, ever purchased an extended warranty for anything. I buy quality products and roll the dice and so far, I keep winning.

For all suggesting waiting even until the three years, what about the price increase they will probably have especially when you're running out of time? Doesn't that give them no incentive to barter?

i usually thought since SET/GST have their own financial division, the warranty they sell wouldnt be valid outside of those specific regions unless its a toyota usa warranty.

i imagine they would upsell their own first before trying to sell a toyota usa version.

worst price for a vsa is roughly $2100 for the 10/125

around $1600 for the 10/100 and then the price drops roughly $100-$200 as you go down the each option point in the matrix

it use to be that the 4R was in a tier 3 matrix vs the tundra (tier 4) but it seems they have moved all the BoF vehicles into the same tier 4 matrix (only reason i say that was when i bought my vsa for my 14 4R it was in tier 3 matrix. not sure now since i havent gotten a price quote yet on a new 4R.

i know my 23 tundra i am looking at $1600 for a 10/100 vsa plat zero deduct

you have been very helpful. Thank you so much! I will use my poker face and see what I can get. I’m hoping that bc I’m not using their financing they will be eager to get me out the door “buying something” and I can get a decent deal - if not I will be purchasing after the fact and I’ll use that site you posted.

The finance guy at the dealership I bought my TRD ORP from tried to sell me 10 yr / 125K for $4000. He went through a bunch of mumbo jumbo math showing how one electronic failure could easily cost the $4k. I said no and he immediately dropped it by $500 since he was such a good guy. I said no and that was that. I reached out to the Dealer listed in these threads and was quoted $1795 for the 10/125 Toyota Platinum zero deductible. I dont think I will get the VSA but I have 3/36 to consider it. (and yes in 3 years the cost of the VSAs will go up but I'd rather see if I have any issues with my truck before considering a VSA).

This is good info! Thank you for sharing. I will not budge knowing there is better deals to be found elsewhere.

usually the vsa dont jump in price or move at all each year. they stay flat until a slight price bump.

usually its around $100-$200 if they do go up.

old email from 2020 for a 2018 tundra platinum we had

10/100k was $1545
10/125k was $2070

vs the quote i got the other day

2023 tundra platinum we have today

10/100k $1545
10/125k $2070

so it hasnt moved in price in 5 yrs

when i bought a 8/75 for our 2018 tundra its was around $580, on the new 2023 tundra that same plan is $780

I assume some of you have bought a warranty from the seller listed here? I am interested in the 10/125 just for peace of mind mainly. The price and terms are way better than I got from dealership. The dealership wouldn't even offer me the actual toyota plan. They only offered Ethos Group. That blew my mind, but got it anyways. Been less than a month so I may try to cancel it and get the toyota one. Hoping this is legit.

You may not realize this, OP, but for every dollar you pay for that extended warranty you are in fact financing that. If you gave $1000 for a warranty, for example, or applied the $1000 towards the downpayment, well, you can see you are financing $1000 more than you would have to had you not purchased the warranty. So, again, you are financing every penny that is not applied to the purchase. You are obviously nervous about owning a new vehicle and you made it clear you do not have much experience negotiating, so you are doing the right thing and getting the opinions of those that have also purchased extended warranty. Obviously you should do whatever feels right for your situation. Good luck.
