Gobi stealth rack came in yesterday and I was able to get it installed today. It took my bro & I about 3.5 hrs and we just needed my son’s help for 5 minutes to place the rack on the roof mounts. I can imagine it’s possible to do this as a one-man-job with some blankets or towels to help slide the rack onto the roof but if you got friends, why risk your back?
Anyway, we followed the instructions step by step for the most part. I had bought pry tools, anti-seize, silicone, and “little giant” ladder. We could have gotten by with just a step ladder. The kit came with more than enough anti-seize and the silicone was not necessary.
Everything was straight forward and I would say the most difficult part was making the wind deflector sit correctly. Popping off the corner caps of the factory roof rack was also a pain because it takes quite a bit of force to get them off and you will be wondering if you’re gonna crack them. Other than those things, it was a stress-free install.
I am very satisfied with it. The ladder does not affect rear camera view. The highest part of the rack sits at 5 3/4” measured from the top of the roof. My parking garage says 6’8” clearance and I have included pics of there being a lot of room before I have to worry. I just might be able to go with the bigger tires I’ve been looking at. Time to save some $ first.
Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th.
