I get that, Latrant, but everyone is coming out of the woodwork "asking" for so many items that would make an option list longer than on Porsche with the threat to cancel their order. Obviously a startup is not going to have many options because of economics. Things like the most profitable come out first, fewer options to reduce manufacturing complexity, to even what is becoming a thing now, a standard paint color and all others are additional. I think the VW ID.Buzz is a great example of not many options, but being a new vehicle, add in the chicken tax, and it is the most expensive VW made and does not sell.
I think they need to get the vehicle out on time and make 80% of the people happy so they can get their foothold. Then, they can breath and work on improving that. That foundation is what makes short run models and unpopular or overly priced options possible. Most buy an F-150 base to middle range. Few buy the $120k version even though it is probably pretty awesome. If they focused on building the Top model, they would be bankrupt before building the work horses that carry the brand and model.
Maybe a thread could be started like the orders thread where all possible options can be suggested and they can be put in a chart. We could even have some estimates on cost put in based on other vehicles. Last, we could tick off the options we would like and pay for to see what is truly important and most popular. At least a fun exercise.

I don’t disagree with all you’ve said.

Oddly, Chinese manufacturers are adding all these features at an affordable price but, granted, subsidized by the Chinese Government. IF Chinese brands are ever allowed into our markets, they will be far ahead of the technology, features and affordability we are offered.

Rivian, similar to Tesla, made the latest and greatest (and most expensive) models first and only later made more affordable models. I’m not saying the other way around, meaning making an affordable vehicle with fewer features/amenities isn’t the best idea. Time will tell.

I know I’m willing to pay for A great ADB headlight tech, as Rivian has now (and in other countries MB, Audi, BMW for ten years), a great dashcam system like Rivian and Tesla and great, always on connectivity, like Tesla and Rivian. Not everyone wants this or can afford it but stripping them down won’t make them competitive. OEMs offer a stripped down version of their models to advertise the lowest price, but according to Alex on Autos/AutoCarGuide/Alex Dykes in his last podcast, only 1% of models sold are the lowest, stripped down trim.

So to be competitive, Scout Motors has to be more things to more people.

Cheers

The ID.Buzz sold in the USA doesn't have a 25% chicken tax because it's a passenger van. The cargo version would be subject to the tax. ID.BUZZ is expensive because it's a huge EV made in Germany.

That most likely will be within a package. But I have come to love the heads up display feature especially when it also incorporates navigation
