I know this is a vague question, since nobody can fully predict the future. However, I am looking for a reasonable estimation, given our best-efforts and best understanding of current knowledge.

For anyone wanting to buy this vehicle new in 2027... how do you expect the Traveler to retain/hold its value over the next 10 years?

Given that this vehicle has 3 factors:

1) New model, from a new company (wildcard factor)
2) Durable off-road construction (which tends to help retain resale value)
3) Fully EV & high tech (which may tend to lower resale value)

UNLNOWN! The rate of innovation occurring with EV’s doesn’t help maintain resale values. IF a solid state technology battery is not available at the time of Scout’s sales rollout the resale will likely decline.

Current 3 year old EV resale values are typically less than equivalent ICE models when compared to the new versions of each. ICE currently has less ongoing innovation and the general used vehicle customer feels like they have a better understanding of ICE vehicle’s lifespan and repair costs.

Scout will have a more loyal customer base than generic EV’s will help. I plan to drive my Scout for as long as possible understanding that I may not have an easy out to trade it or flip it.

The first question should be - will the Scout even make it to market in 2027. Plenty of automakers are pushing back their EV plans.

They're not building a plant on a 10,000 acre piece of land to leave it sitting empty. :)

Fair question. I have assumed all along 2028 delivery (fingers crossed!!). Prefer they don’t rush into production “just because” . IF 6-8 month delay gets me a solid state battery vs existing tech I would wait if given a choice.

I agree. I will drive my Bronco and Terra until the wheels fall off, the vehicle becomes a high value classic, I lose my license to old age or I die, whichever comes first.

The best things Scout can do for resale value:
- Build a great product
- Don't over-estimate demand

That second one has been a real issue for some newer EVs where the demand hasn't met production numbers, which creates downward pressure on price and resale.

As with others, I hope to drive for a long time, but no one likes to see resale values dropping off a cliff.

This company's saving grace is that it will offer a gas-powered range extender. This will help against skeptics and perhaps keep the resale value up.

Assuming Scout delivers a solid product with good reliability and after sale support, I expect one to be able to sell their Scout at a profit for the first year or so until they burn down the backlog, then for depreciation to decline to the average for hybrid and electric trucks, which is generally significant.

I don't believe specific technology will drive resale value that much, as long as they support NAICS and a high recharge rate. And I will be shocked if they take the new technology and sourcing risk to include solid state batteries. If they offer them I bet it would be an extra cost option for the first couple of years until the technology and supply chain is proven reliable in the real world.

I guess I'm really hoping this vehicle is going to be a keeper... Since I'm in a winter/salt state, a lot will depend upon the materials used...
