I just took this picture of a Trailhunter which has the same engine as my TRD Pro. How should a buyer feel if they paid $10k extra for the Hybrid engine and their mileage if a lot lower than what is advertised? If it was purchased solely for the extra torque and horsepower, then fine. If the Hybrid was purchased with the idea of getting 23mpg, then its not right to be advertising this type of mileage. Sounds like false advertising to me!! Or maybe just "embellishing" !!

OK, a few thousand dollars more, but its still more than a gas only model, with the only real benefit being horsepower and torque, not mpg.

Nobody gets the EPA MPG in the real world. It’s almost an impossibility, with the parameters they measure by. I have a Pro and the best I’ve gotten so far in the first 1,000 miles or so is 21.9 MPG on the hwy. Do I wish it was higher? Sure. But I never expected it to. Plus, the regular gas engine is rated at 25 or 26 MPG on the hwy. I don’t think I have ever seen Toyota marketing for the 4Runner Hybrids as a hybrid like a Prius. They have just marketed the fact that it gets way more HP and Torque. Just my observations.

The only real benefit being horsepower and torque? Lol. It is a 4runner, not a camry.

It is easy to get The fuel mileage on the sticker of a stock SR5 around the Midwest, If you lived in the Mountain area it would be lower, The higher trim levels get worse mileage with the bigger tires . I would be pissed if I bought a hybrid and thought I would get the mileage on the window sticker

LOL and no kidding its not a Camry, Prius or Rav4 and if my only concern was gas mileage, I would've bought one of those. I've owned a 1990,1997,2006,2010,2016 and now a 2025 so I guess I'm a big fan of the 4Runner and Toyota overall. However, as a consumer with reasonable expectations with regards to claims that a manufacturer(Toyota) makes about one of their cars, I am disappointed with their unrealistic claim for mileage. Why claim higher mileage for a hybrid, when that's not reality? Also, this is my personal company vehicle, so the good thing is that I don't even pay for the gas!! The only time in the last 25 years that my daily driver was something other than a 4Runner, was from 2022-2025 when it was a 2020 Tacoma, all gas and my mpg was 17-21.

It’s actually not Toyota’s “claim” on the MPG, it’s the EPA that issues the MPG on the window sticker. Not the manufacturer.

Interesting, didn’t know that, but good point. So where did the EPA come up with those numbers?

Wow, that was really interesting and informative . My complete faith in Toyota is renewed knowing that the EPA is the problem!! Thanks for sending the link.

As an aside, I find many, many of our problems can be tied back to government, especially in the auto industry (tariffs, MPG numbers, regulations driving manufacturers to turbo 4s, nanny electronic features, auto stop/start, and many more). Manufacturers are stuck complying as best they can with all this while still making a decent margin to stay in business. It's adds a huge amount of cost to the vehicles we buy but many of us just wrongly blame the manufacturers. Sigh....mini rant over.

I've got 3200 miles on my OR hybrid now after having it 2 weeks and I'm not complaining about mileage. 80 mph on the interstate it's closer to 20 mpg but I did go 425 miles on a tank of gas so it definitely has potential to get great mileage.
