6th Gen 4Runner vs Sienna

My family of three currently own a 2018 Sienna, which has 8 seats. We use it on long trips and when we have guests visiting so that we can take them to places around where we live. The 6th gen 4runner is becoming very appealing and I am thinking of trading the van in so that I can use down payment to buy the 4runner outright, without the need to finance. The trade in value of our Sienna, per the dealer quote, is around $22,000 What I like about the Sienna is that when we have three or more visitors visiting, we can take them anywhere without the need of bringing a second car. Plus the Sienna has more passenger space. Meanwhile, we only have visitors visiting three or four times per year. However, both a 4runner and the Sienna are good road trip vehicles. With that being said, can a 4runner replace the practicality of a minivan? Thanks!

Two completely different vehicles. Get the 4Runner and rent a van while running a taxi service for guests.

Short answer is no. Check out the Sequoia if you want the extra space. If it doesn't matter as much then the 4Runner makes more sense

Not a chance you can replace a minivan with a 4runner.

What is the issue with taking 2 cars when guests come? We do this every time we have more guests than seats.

You can get a 7 seater 4Runner but then there’s not much cargo space. I think a van would be more comfortable riding if you have to go distance.

um technically you can only fit 4 adults comfortably in a 4R. 5 in a tight pinch, 6 - 7 th seat is kids only or short adults if the distance is short (under 2 hrs, it get way uncomfortable after 2 hrs)

and you can only do uber duties, no storage for purchases or luggage if hauling more than 5 people.

get a grand highlander (more interior space than a sequoia) or stick with the sienna if you want to comfortably carry 8 people, grand highlander is a close 2nd to a sienna.

the grand highlander has more storage space with 8 people than the sequoia, the sequoia has more storage space if you have only 5 people.

Become instantly MUCH cooler and ditch the van and get a 4Runner. Tell your potential guests you have no time for them anymore because you are too busy driving around in your new 4Runner.

Don't let other people dictate what you buy. If you want a 4runner, get you one homie. Other people can uber or rent a vehicle for their stay.
