OK so at around 4-5mph (seems to cap at 5mph) this happens and this seems to ONLY happen right after hybrid motor switches back to engine (either cause it has to recharge the battery or the engine needs to be within operating conditions). The rpm would fluctuate like in the video and the worst in sport mode. But if I accelerate (maybe because the engine isnt at operating temps this happen? No idea) for 5-10 secs and come to a stop it will go beyond 5mph and wont happen again. Any insights on this would be great and if this happens to anyone else. This happens most frequently during traffic.

I drive in New York City on local roads and highways, even in heavy traffic, and I’ve never seen the RPM behave like that. I’d recommend getting it checked out. I have a ORP Hybrid as well.

This wasnt on the road btw I was recording this and able to replicate it in a parking lot. Also all times I didnt have my foot on the brakes or gas.

This is while you’re actually on the gas driving? That’s definitely strange.

I have a gas model but I did notice the rpms kind of bounce around 2-3k rpms while accelerating with like 50% throttle. I’m not sure how accurate those digital tachs are. When I hook my obd scanner up to it and watch the rpms while accelerating they look normal.

This is done more so in the scenario of at a complete stop and letting go of the brake like in very heavy traffic. Its not just the rpm bouncing around the car has a slight jerk back and forth like someone is tapping on the gas little by little. The thing is it wont do this at literally any other mph other than complete stop and letting go the brake right after the hybrid switches to the gas. After I accelerate past the initial 5mph its back to normal. It feels like the car is trying to get past 5mph but cant and the rpm just bounces and the car jerks back and forth.

That’s weird. Maybe some programming glitch between electric and gas switch? They’re definitely pretty jerky drivetrains. I feel like I’m constantly jerking and clunking around at low speeds. I think it’s all those short gears stacked on top of each other.

How many miles? The way I understand it there’s a clutch between the engine and electric motor and it gets smoother when the clutch gets broken in. Our hybrid Limited has 2300 miles and the transition from electric to gas is much smoother than when it was new.

Alittle over 3k miles the rpm dances around the 1k mark. I feels the transition between the engine kicking on and accelerating kick but thats normal for the hybrid. Literally any other speed or rpm the rpm wont do that. Im posting this to see if other people can also replicate this on theirs.

My ORP Hybrid should arrive next week. I'll update my experiences. On past test drives i did not notice what you're experiencing.

Ok so it does it once the engine if first turned on also when the engine starts up again after the hybrid goes to charge. I tested it with S1 and drove around with it never happening.

Does it change if a/c is off or on?

I have not noticed this on my ORP hybrid, although I rarely run (and watch) it long at that speed. Probably worth having it checked as someone suggested.

For the comment on digital tach accuracy, it should be dead-on--far better than any mechanical device. I expect it goes off a digital encoder that pulses each rotation (or perhaps more than one pulse per rotation) which is counted and converted to display. Its reading will be exact (far better than can be portrayed on a coarse display).

The a/c doesnt affect it just eco, normal, and sport. It only happens at 5mph very rarely are most people doing such low speeds maybe if you live in an area with terrible traffic. Also you dont necessarily need to look at the rpm because the car jerks forwarded and back like if you were to tap the gas over and over again

Seems like a throttle mapping issue to me.

Maybe also putting in neutral stops it
