I really like the new 4runners. I think the TRD ORP trim is the sweet spot, but $58k-$60k MSRP + TTL just seems too high.

I walked away from a deal on a TRD ORP for $500 below MSRP and wonder if that was a mistake. Why are so many people paying these prices? Am I the odd one for thinking it's just too high?

I'd love to be proven wrong so I can go back and buy that 4runner before it sells LOL!
12 months from now it will be different. You’ll be able to get $5k off.

This is the kind of thread that makes me angry. I just got my 4Runner Trailhunter and paid nearly full MSRP for it. That is an absolute rip off, no matter how much I love the truck, and i do love the truck, but still, nothing about it says it was worth $70K plus tax and BS garbage dealer fees. I'm angry that they wouldn't budge a single cent because they knew some dumb arse fool would happily pay over MSRP for it. Only a great fool pays over MSRP and a moderate fool (Like myself) pays full MSRP. I work in sales and usually negotiations begin at about 25 to 35 points below MSRP and go from there. Americans, and most car buyers are so fooled, and the FOMO and urgency created by the seller just disgusts me.

I see all these posts about "If $500 is an issue, maybe it's not the right trusck for you" and I call BS. 100% BS. I could afford a truck 3x the price but don't any of you have principals? Don't you give a hoot about where your hard earned dollars go, and if you are getting VALUE for your money?

Yes, Toyota is synonymous for quality (where it counts) but my Trailhunter still has shitty ass light weight 4Runner doors with panels that are 100% gonna rattle after 30K miles and just the usual cheapness that you get with a Toyota interior. Not to mention the AC sucks. SUCKS. Worst AC I've ever had in a vehicle. Blower is too weak, and the air is not cold enough for Texas.

Am I happy with my purchase? Yes, but if you ask me what it's actually worth, I'd say about $45K. Sorry, those are the facts, which leads me to believe it cost Toyota around $10K to manufacture and about $600 to ship. Glad I only have a 3 year loan.

Never understood why people get so hung up on "MSRP" - Its nothing more than a number that the manufacturer sets (recommends) based on extensive research of the market that they feel consumers will pay. If its set too high (overpriced) the vehicles won't hit projections. If its under priced, they won't be able to keep up with inventory.

There really isn't more to it than that. The fact that Toyota can't keep inventory on some models of their vehicles and some folks are even willing to pay over that says something, and unfortunately that folks are willing to pay the prices (and more).

But its such an antiquated thought process where people feel they must "Never pay sticker" ... In the end, you pay what you are willing to bear and what the market dictates... You're not getting "Ripped off" when you're unwilling to pay a certain price and folks are lined up behind you willing to pay it.

I started searching for Sport Premium or ORP as little as 2 weeks ago here in Southern Ca. and we have about 15 dealers with 25 miles. Every single dealer is at MSRP and unaccounted trucks without a deposit only stay on a lot for 4 days max. Half of these dealers have the $4995 DIO and PIO account for 2k added items on average. They look at you with a third eye every time I tell them I won’t pay for their DIO, so getting them to go below MSRP isn’t even a thought. I currently have a truck en route to the port with $0 PIO and $0 DIO, so this is the best deal to be had in my area. I can still add any items I want prior to the boat reaching port. The only added options I’m paying for right now is the premium Pearl paint and the Sun roof which are factory added options. When the truck arrives I’m got to ask if they will go 1k below MSRP to see what they will say.

Agree that it is overpriced, at least when I compare it to the 26 Honda Passport. But having owned a 23 Ridgeline, the 4cyl turbo is way better under all driving conditions. And now I dont have to look at the stupid push button transmission or the stupid instrument cluster any more. Over priced? yes, but the 4R makes me happy to drive it unlike the Honda which simply moved me from point A to point B. I paid MSRP, not thrilled, but I've moved on and simply just enjoy my 4R.

I called 12 dealerships when looking for my ORP Max and eveyone had add on and dealer mark ups. I was lucky to find 2 dealerships that were willing to give it to me at MSRP in SOCAL. The supply is still real low on the I Force Max . If you can get any discounts on these jump on it.

I had many discussions with Anaheim and they have $0 dealer mark ups, but they couldn’t get the Sport Premium/ color I want. Tustin is not on the list, but they have a Sport in transit with $0 dealer mark ups and I held this truck. One member said that Tustin adds DIO, but I must have gotten the right person on the phone. Funny that I told South Coast in Costa Mesa that I won’t pay for any dealer items and I now have the sales Mgr calling me and saying he will work with me. I possibly have an option to hold an I Force Max through Tustin that’s currently being built in underground color, but I asked if it can be switched to the Cutting Edge color and she’s waiting to hear back from them. I’m on the fence about wanting the Hybrid and it would mean a good 3-4 weeks more of waiting. I also, prefer the color matched fenders and that’s why I opted for the Sport.

Sure - but then 2-3 years from now, people will say the same thing about updates. If history has told us anything, they will not be cheaper either.

By then the value/selling price of my current vehicle will drop 2-3k, so there’s always that. So no, I’m not going to wish I waited. Also, THEY might turn our country into a 3rd world by then and a tank may be needed instead.

Just remember it comes with diffrent options and suspension then the OR or ORP. Don't know if you want to take it off road or not.

Thanks, I will look closer at the options. Just some moderate off roading and nothing too technical.
