Range and tank size

I have had my 2025 Toyota off-road premium for about a month and just hit 1100 miles. I’ve only put in a full tank of gas maybe three times and from the specs I’ve seen it should have a 19 gallon tank. I’ve also read that people‘s ranges are about 350 went on a full tank every time I’ve gassed up even when it’s on empty I’ve only got about 17 gallons of gas before it says it’s full and my range is in the 290s. Can anyone tell me if they are also experiencing the same things? Or if this is normal.

Are you in eco/normal/sport mode?
Are you light on the pedal or heavy?

How you drive during one or two tanks will adjust what the perceived range is on the new tank.

In normal mode for me the most I’ve seen for my TRD pro Hybrid was like 305 or 315 I honestly don’t remember.

I’m at 1300 miles and every time I fill up my range is like 259.

I'm in the same boat as you, ORP, 1100 miles 3 fill-ups, 300 miles till empty. I think if I drove all highway that would go up but since I'm typically 90 town/10 highway, I expect it won't change much.

Edited Aug. 15 - A few more notes here after my latest fillup today. I ran tank down to 5 miles to empty, filled up with 16.4 gallons. 19 mpg for the tank. The new DTE is 305 miles. The gas gauge is definitely conservative.

Those ranges are not a "until you run out of gas" range. Its a range where you need to fill up. I have been at 0 in my current car for 20 miles and still kept going...and even then, only got 17.9g in the car with a 19g tank.

Think of it as zero is approximately 2 gallons left and you better get your butt to a station. So if you are only getting 17mpg, your range for 17 gal is right around 290. Every car I have had is like this. I don't think I have ever been able to add more than 1gal less than capacity.

Also: The manual says explicitly that the Low fuel level warning light "Indicates that remaining fuel is approximately 2.8 gal." For me, this is usually when the miles to empty is about 20-25 miles to go, depending on the MPGs for that tank so far. And since I'm getting (typically) ~21 mpg/tank, zero miles to go is at ~2 gallons remaining in tank - confirmed with data I've posted in that other thread. My miles to go after fill-up has always been around 350 (including last tank that was slightly below 20 mpgs but included 30 miles in 4LO off-road (which dragged the total down).

I am only getting about 16.9 MPG but I drive mostly city and have 20in Nitto Grapplers on my vehicle so that reduces the MPG somewhat. Also the tank will show empty with a 2 gal reserve still in the tank. making 17 gal fill a 19 gal tank.

TRD Sport gives me between 22 and 25 mpg avg. Combination city/highway and some dirt roads but nothing that requires 4x4. I usually use Normal mode unless I'm on the highway then I use Eco. If I'm on dirt roads or in certain areas of town, I'll use Sport mode.

My Tundra always says like 400 miles left when I fill up, and I've never in 12 years of ownership gone over 305 miles on a single tank. I hand calculate MPG every fillup, so I know how far each tank lasts.

So yeah, I'll likely never pay attention to that number LOL

Even on hgwy. trips I'm still only getting 20 max. in normal mode. Daily driving is only netting about 17. Sport/Normal

Exactly. It's "cruising range", not miles to empty. I ignore it on my 5th Gen since I know I have 4 gallons left when the low fuel light comes on...and my vehicle will have traveled just under 300 miles on 19 gallons so I think you guys are doing fine.
