My current truck is a 2014 Tundra. When I first bought it I immediately did a LineX liner, and drove it just like that for a while. Then I figured it would be nice to protect cargo from weather and humans, so I bought a folding tonneau cover (Bakflip). I drove it like that for a few years. Then I decided that I wasn’t often hauling s that it wouldn’t fit under a camper shell, and that this option would give me more space and make dump runs a lot easier (no need to tie down anything), so I bought a camper shell and haven’t looked back.

Now I’m wondering what my journey will be like with the Terra. Straight to a camper shell? I love the look of an open truck bed so much that it’s tempting just to leave it alone. But, the camper shell has served me extremely well. I also wonder what adding a shell will do to my mileage. Probably some trade off between aero and weight there. I guess in the end it will depend on what the SnugTops of the world design for this truck. If it looks good, I will probably buy a shell for it.

What about you?

I love the open truck bed but am looking for a retractable bed cover to protect cargo for long trips and still have access to the back seats.

Ya it’s pretty handy having locking storage in the bed. For me it was suitcases and such for family trips. The hard folding cover I had worked really well and would fold up out of the way giving access to nearly the entire bed (but block the rear window).

I have a RSI Smartcap on my Jeep. I'm hoping for something similar. I'm waiting to see what happens. I'll be looking at a new truck around the time these start to roll off the line.

I’m open to other options but I’m currently leaning towards a folding cover like a Bakflip. I’ve had those on past trucks and have never been disappointed. I like how they can be easily removed for larger items.

I just recently found this bedcover which I really like as it gives you access to the entire bed, but is still secure and weather sealed. If the Terra bed is in fact 5'5" then this would work nicely. https://www.peragon.com/shop/folding

Interesting but it takes up a lot of bed space unless you remove it entirely. The flipping and rolling tonneaus usually only take up about 6 inches at the front of the bed. I do like that this one can be slid back and forth to access different parts of the bed.

I currently have the Diamond Back HD on my Toyota and while I like the security and weather seal, you only have access to either the back or the front, unless you remove the cover. That's why I like the Paragon, it slides to give you access to 2/3 of the bed without removing the cover. With my cover on the bed is useless for anything tall.

I saw that Peragon bed cover and I really want it, but it felt too expensive for my current 2011 F150, which I do love but also hope it is tiding me over till the Terra.

I considered the BAKFlip. But I decided to go a little cheaper and got the Worksport AL3. It is light weight, but for the money I'm very happy with it.

The fiberglass bed cover that came with the truck turned into a mess of cracks.

I hope the Terra has some good and affordable options quickly.
