just drive both. you will make up you mind quick. apples to apples the 6th gen will get better mpg, but no one buys a 4runner for mpg's.
We got the OR Hybrid just so it could go a bit further and we wouldn't have to carry gas cans. We did the Pony Express trail in Utah and Nevada - total distance between gas stations was 343 miles and we probably would have made it but we went out of the way and got gas just to be cautious.

I am stuck between a 5th gen and the 6th gen. I test drove a 2010 5th gen today and got 18 MPG around town. I can afford either one. My question is what MPGs are you getting on your 6th gens? What is better with the 6th gen, for those coming from the 5th? Thanks!
I am getting 21 on average from a non hybrid. My wrangler got 15, so this is good

I had a 5th gen ORP, and just upgraded to a 6th gen Pro. I can tell you that there is absolutely no comparison - the hybrid engine and improved transmission are amazing. I don’t have to start planning at Noon if I want to accelerate a 5 PM to drive to dinner. The big screen and wireless CarPlay are a huge upgrade, and all the other little refinements. Toyota clearly had kept a long list of tweaks and did them all.

The only real regression is the flip up back seats, which is manageable (you just don’t flip them all the way), and the higher cargo deck bed because of the hybrid battery. Anything else is just nits, and the net improvement is substantial. I posted a thread over in another forum with more details, but honestly, I have absolutely zero regrets.

Put it another way, I don’t think you’d regret getting a 6th gen. You might very well regret getting a 5th gen.

No regrets getting a 2024 TRD OffRoad, but it is still early days to be talking about no regrets for a Gen 6.

I am thrilled they finally came out with the Gen 6. I couldn't get rid of my 2020 Gen 5 fast enough. The steering was horrid, and the handling was subpar compared to my Gen 1 and Gen 4. I do the happy dance every day because of this new truck! Yay.

Is the hybrid version really better than the gas only version of the 6th gen?
More power and the inverter are basically the only reasons to get the hybrid in my opinion.

I’ve averaged 21.2mpg over the past 6k miles with a sr5 4x4 with 265 open country’s. If I could go back I would have gotten a 5th gen. The technology on the 6th gen is awesome but I hate the 8 speed transmission.

Yea until they fix this transmission issue we have in the 6th Gen and the Tacomas I won't be totally happy
I heard there is some issues with the brakes on 6 gen 4 Runner and the Land Cruiser, noisy in reverse I belive.

I am sure all these issues will get figured out in time, I just don't want to dance, I will sit this one out.

I have SR5 and Ive been averaging 23-24mpg and standing at 5k miles. Best I've gotten was 29-30mpg on a straight highway stretch.

The backseats in the 6G have less leg room or space in case you want to put a child seat in the back. Seems more cramped.

Low end torque is peppy and fun ( I don't have Hybrid ).
I've also got a 2025 SR5 and am at a total overall average of 23.8 MPG on the first 1,500 miles. This is with stock 17" Yokohama Geolander tires. The 4 cyl Turbo is peppy and the transmission is very linear and smooth.
