I've got the TRD ORP iForce Max hybrid, which offers 2400W AC power outlets in both the second row center console and in the rear cargo area. This was a really appealing/important feature for me, as I want a way to charge my devices and power my portable electric refrigerator.

2025 Toyota 4runner The 2400W DC-AC Inverter is loud AC Outlet

I'm finding that when there's a significant draw on the AC outlet, a REALLY loud fan noise kicks in — presumably coming from the DC-AC inverter, and it sounds like it's coming from the center console area between the driver and passenger seats. I've included a link to a video which illustrates how the sound clicks on and ramps up. This is happening with a device drawing 500 watts (well below the 2400W rating of the outlet). It doesn't matter whether it's plugged into the second row or cargo area outlet. Same result either way.

Can anyone else test/verify what you're seeing? Wondering if it's a defect, or if that's just how it is....

The manual does say, "while a power outlet is being used, a cooling fan sound may be heard from near a luggage compartment. This does not indicate a malfunction" but this is *REALLY* loud and doesn't seem normal to me.

What was the ambient temperature? Have you also tried a very light load to see if that triggers the fan?

I can confirm it's normal, I have an Ecoflow Delta Pro and tested the 2400w inverter by charging it and WOW that fan is loud. Both in our Tacoma and 4Runner it was the same, It was charging at 1700w. If it wasn't in the center console I don't think it would be as bad.

@CMill4Runner - I'm trying to charge an EcoFlow Delta 3 Plus power station, so I have a very similar use case to yours. I am seriously thinking about just installing one of these EcoFlow 800w Alternator Inverters and skipping the Toyota 2400W inverter entirely. They are on sale right now, and I picked one up yesterday. I confirmed with EcoFlow that they don't have a fan and make no noise at all.

Holy @#%&, that's loud! Sounds like a jet engine!

My plan is/was to ditch my rooftop tent and sleep inside the truck next to my power brick and refrigerator, so this might actually become a dealbreaker for me.

I do a lot of camping. The 2400W invertor for all my gear was the number one deciding factor when I chose the hybrid over the gas engine. This video has me second-guessing my entire plan. If I am forced back into a RTT due to noise levels, I might as well just get the gas version... or keep my Bronco.

Damn....

I wont be driving and charging will only need to charge when it's sitting in camp here and there. Good idea though, I'll keep it in mind if I'm wrong about my usage. We have 300AH Lithium in the camper and I think the Delta Pro is 300AH+ so if my greedy electrical needs are more than 600AH with 600w of solar there are other issues!

Can you tell me if there is 12V power in the back? I want to run a fridge as well but thinking 12V may be better if this thing is loud.

Holy SHIT that's loud lol
It would be nice to change that inverter out with one that is less noisy and produces a pure sign wave. That way you wouldn't be limited as to what you could plug into it.

I tested a bit yesterday and I think the car has to be running to use the inverter, so at most, you’d probably only be able to charge for an hour before it shuts off automatically. In other words, you probably will not be sleeping all night with the inverter running.

i also threw my iceco apl55 in the back and it’s too big for the space, I’ll have to get a slider if I’m going to keep it and use in the 4Runner, hopefully your fridge is smaller.

all my trips are solo, so I get away with the smaller Iceco GO20:

That said, I just changed my order to the gas model. I'll use the Ecoflow charger and enjoy the extra storage room in the back. I can also add the OTT tune for a bit of additional horsepower and torque. Boom, too easy.

(I still have a TRD Pro on order at a different dealership, as well, but I'll probably just get my money back from that one since Pros are basically unicorns at this point).

Gentlemen, to run a 2400w inverter, the inverter will need good cooling system. And the ONLY time you will be using such large inverter is ONLY when you need to plug anything over 110v (Induction oven, hairdryer, welding machines, 3d printers, laser cutters, power tools, 56" TV sets, etc.) and most likely for a short period of time (less than an hour), and of course, during the time you are using such electrical devices (110 AC) you will be running the car. I don't know yet the specs of the I-Force MAX batteries, but definitely you don't want them to get totally depleted

However, when you are using 12v DC devices, you WILL NOT BE USING the inverter. Remember:
- Fridge is a 12v DC
- Warm blankets 12v DC
- Fans 12v DC
- ARB air system, 12v DC
These devices can be used all day without having to run the car neither the inverter (I needs to see the specs of the batteries to know how long can be run these devices without running the car)

Remember

WATTS=VOLTAGE x AMPS
