Has anyone had any experience yet towing a TH hybrid behind a motorhome? Does it require a trailer dolly?

Toyotas cannot be flat towed behind a motorhome like a Jeep can. All Jeeps have a complete drivetrain disconnect, that includes the plug-in hybrid 4xe that I owned, that allows for flat towing. I recently got rid of my motorhome and my Jeep, been an rver for well over a decade. Motorhome dealers and rv magazines publish a list of vehicles you can flat tow and Toyotas are not on those lists. Jeeps always behave great when being pulled and they're not going to automatically jump into gear due to the process required to put them into full disconnect mode. I towed my 2021 Jeep Wrangler over 50,000 mi with no issues. I have seen some Toyota 4Runners put on a flatbed trailer and pulled successfully behind motorhomes. Since Toyotas don't have drivetrain disconnect you will ruin the transmission. I have seen some people disconnect the drive shaft of Toyotas but that seems like an awful lot of trouble to go to. I just bought a Toyota 4Runner Trailhunter to replace the Jeep, much better drivability on the highway, not as capable as the Jeep was off road however.

personally unless you can disconnect the driveshaft, i wouldnt tow any vehicle behind a RV unless on a flatbed

the horror stories ive seen when things bump south.

that one time a jeep got bumped into 4Low and they drove it on a highway behind a rv, yeah that engine block was a work of art when they spun that engine

https://www.thedrive.com/news/39794/rv-driver-annihilates-their-new-jeep-wrangler-by-flat-towing-it-in-

Having owned four Jeeps primarily to pull behind a motorhome, there's only one process to disconnect the drivetrain and it's very simple. Jeeps automatically going back into gear is not a thing if following the owner's manual instructions. If the instructions aren't followed it won't disconnect the drivetrain in the first place. There's a reason you usually only see Jeeps pulled behind motorhomes is because they are built for that. There are a few other vehicles that do the same like some Ford trucks but if you're an off-roader like me the Jeep is a superior vehicle to pull. That being said, the reason I got rid of my motorhome and the Jeep, My 2021 Jeep Wrangler was recalled seven times and broke down on the trail and the 1-year-old motorhome was in the shop 4 months out of the year. I won't be buying any more American built products since my first Toyota 4Runner lasted me 21 years, I went back to that, and Airbnb.

Yeah, and other videos I've seen explaining how it is done makes it a definite no for me. Too much involved.

It's easy to do with the right equipment, unfortunately just not Toyota. Jeep will get you there, but Toyota will get you home.

Too be fair Jeeps are very use to being towed. You don't need to disconnect the drivetrain on some vehicles. Most automatics need to have the engine running so they can pump oil through the bearings as they spin. Saturns had a transmission that could be towed. Manual transmissions also are towable but so few are made now that finding one is all but impossible.

II have a 2025 4Runner gas that I am converting to flat tow. It is replacing my 2010 FJ Cruiser that I have flat towed for 10's of thousands of miles over 15 years behind my motorhomes. A driveshaft disconnect is easy to use, just a little costly to install. Luckily I can reuse some of the parts removed from the FJ.

Only issue I have ever had was the time in New Mexico that I forgot to take off the emergency brake. Never even felt the car dragging, just wondered what the noise was. Only about 100 feet but had to put up with a bumpy ride until I replaced the rear 2 tires with the flat spots!

I'm just not a Jeep person, love my Toyotas!

Aren't all 4Runners gas LOL. It seems like a lot of trouble to pull a 4Runner behind an rv with a drive shaft disconnect. Why not just get a vehicle that's built to do that like a Jeep Wrangler. While I'm not a big fan of Jeep, I pulled a Wrangler behind my motorhome for 10 years with no issues. Got rid of the motorhome and the Jeep and now have a trailhunter, while it certainly drives better on the highway it surely isn't as capable off-road as the Wrangler was. My dealer told me if I put a drive shaft disconnect on my 4Runner it would void the warranty. One of the main reasons I got rid of the motorhome and the Jeep. Until they make a great class a motorhome overseas and not this American junk, got rid of all my American vehicles.

My local Toyota dealer did all the maintenance work on my FJ from the start and never mentioned the 6 inch lift or disconnect. I own a Corvette for the wife and the 4Runner as my daily driver and my overland vehicle. I can't see having to buy and store a jeep just to tow behind the motorhome occasionally. Seems $1500 for the driveshaft disconnect is cheaper and I get to tow my favorite Toyota!

And have had great luck with my motorhomes. Love the design style.

Yeah the 4Runner as a daily driver is definitely a good choice. I drove a first generation 4Runner for 21 years and have now gone back to it mainly for the off-roading ability in the mountains of Colorado. Porsche 911 turbo is my daily driver. Just haven't had that much luck with motorhomes, $300,000 doesn't seem to get quality in a motorhome anymore. Nice looking rig.

its surprising that small bar and itty bitty attachment mount is the only thing holding that vehicle attached to the rv.
