After owning this baby for two weeks now, I can honestly say that the Toyota app is annoying. I regularly get "2025 4Runner Hybrid has multiple vehicle alerts, please check app for more details." It's usually complaining that windows have been left open and doors are unlocked even though I'm in my garage. Sadly, there's no way to turn off certain notifications. What's worse is that the app has a list of notifications but there's no detail to them whatsoever. Really poor design.

+1 agree here. i've had mine for just over a month and the "check rear seat" and "multiple doors unlocked" while its parked in my garage got old after about a week. Right now its in the shop getting PPF/ceramic coat and the app blows up frequently. (n)

Agreed. They put out an app that has no real value to most folk and on top of that, its annoying in terms of notifications.

They need geo exclusions for what ever locations you normally park. Garage, work, etc. They also need detail in the notifications and the granular ability to turn off or on.

another disappointment.

My remote stuff through the app only worked for a few days when I first got the 4Runner. I’ve tried reinstalling the app on my phone and doing setup in the vehicle multiple times but I can’t do remote starts or locks/unlocks etc from the app anymore. It doesn’t bother me enough to take a trip to the dealer but does anyone know what might be going on?

You can turn off the rear seat notification. It'll still turn on when you first start it but it will turn off after a few seconds and stay off.

There's a thread here somewhere but I can't find it.

So they can charge you to remote start or lock/unlock :)
I really only use it to check tire pressures.
Digital Key is the only feature - only on the upper trims - I'd pay a remote connect subscription for. Leaving the keyfob at home and just using your phone to gain access and start the car is the bomb.

for those that use the remote start, its cheaper to use the app initially (5 yrs or less). once you get beyond 5 yrs aftermarket costs can be cheaper longer term. (being in ND our winters we use the remote start daily from about dec to end of feb)

installing the hardware and cost of a 5 yrs drone mobile plan comes out to the same price of paying $15 month for 5 yrs via the app.

prob take another 5 yrs to make up the cost of aftermarket installl/plan to get a ROI that would be better than the oem app cost.

but thats just the back of the napkin numbers

What about having to grant access every time you start the car. I can't stand that. I'm in and out of my car 20X a day and it drives me crazy.

Mine did the same. Even took it to Toyota. They said.....start your car, and press the SOS button. Say no to the first question asking if you have an emergency. Talk to the SOS person, tell them your issue. They created a ticket for the technician and took my phone number. They called 5 days later and and had it fixed. No problems since. That was in May.

I could never rely on just a phone to get into and start my vehicle.

The best is when i'd unlock the 4runner, drive to town, and drive home and when i got back inside i'd get the notifications that my doors had been unlocked and its like...dudes...that was half an hour ago! these notifications need to be timely if they are going to be useful, lol

The Toyota app doesn't allow you to extend the start time. It's 10 minutes and 10 minutes only. Ford let's you extend the 15 minutes it starts with in 10 minute intervals. A great feature for the upper midwest in cold winters! Maybe it's a turbo engine thing. The app is always asking to accept when you get in the car. What's that about? Toyo app doesn't show percent of fuel left although there is a bar showing the amount of fuel so that is something. Doesn't show the oil life % left or windshield washer fluid level. They have a lot of work to compete with Ford.

I agree it is less than ideal...although the ability to check if the vehicle is locked or windows are open is useful (and to correct it remotely). Personally I am not fond of remote start...seems very dangerous to me--for example, if the vehicle is in a closed area (garage, et cetera). OK, could get it warmed up in cold weather...but really, is waiting a few minutes to get warm really that big of a deal?

Yes, I turned off the rear seat warning--that was beyond useless. It would warn me when nothing was there but the seats were down. Plus, I frequently have things there--I did not forget them. Getting an incorrect warning, or simply excessive warnings when you do not need/want them, is almost as bad as not getting warnings when you want them.
