Hey all! Was going to install a TRD skid plate today, but our TRD Sport Premium did not come with the rear “dust cover” that covers the oil pan. And there are no bolts in the holes where the dust cover should have been. So I only have the 4 bolts from the front dust cover, but the TRD skid plate requires 6.

Was I supposed to order extra bolts with the skid plate? Or was my 4Runner actually supposed to come with the rear dust cover (and its 4 bolts)?

Mine was missing the rear cover as well. I ended up putting the front 2 bolts and the back 2 bolts and then ordering the bolt kit from the dealership at the same time as the transmission skid plate. The front plate will be fine with 4 bolts until you can pick up the kit, or 2 other bolts from the dealership.

Thanks for the reply! Glad it’s not just me - I’ll pick up the bolt kit then.

What’s the part number for the extra bolts? I have a TRD skid plate waiting for me to pick up from the dealership so I might as well get the extra bolts while I’m there

I think this is the right kit: PT228-89255
The parts site is down for maintenance so I can’t double check.

Can confirm this is the correct bolt kit - technically labeled as the Trailhunter kit. Includes 6 bolts. However, these bolts are slightly different than the ones holding the plastic OEM engine covers. The kit bolts are black and have 13mm heads, whereas the engine cover bolts are silver and 12mm heads. According to the parts diagrams, the engine cover bolts are part #90119-08D64. I tried ordering them but they were on backorder, so I went with the kit.

All that said, if your 4Runner has both front and rear engine covers, you won’t need extra bolts. If you’re missing the rear cover (that covers the oil drain plug area), then you do need two more bolts.

So it looks like I’ll be fine since I have an ORP so it has the dual plastic covers. It seems like I’ll actually have extra bolts left over.

Quick update. I was able to get the original engine/dust cover bolts (p/n 90119-08D64). They are exact matches to the original silver bolts with 12mm heads. So if anyone just needs two, see if you can get these bolts through your dealer. I found them through an online Lexus dealer (Rallye Lexus) after getting backorder statuses at some Toyota dealers a few weeks back.
