Super weird. There were three or four holes that weren't consistent on either side. Definitely a a big QC issue. I have the CBI Overland Rock Rails on order, which should be here in a few weeks, and having the dealer install them for me. Hopefully they can make it work!

Big shout to CBI. I talked to them today to get some ideas. CBI is sending these with their kits, but I poked their brains on it.

I think I’m going to try rivet nuts to plug the holes that aren’t threaded to get the oem rock sliders on. I will report back when I can get the tool ordered and the rivet nuts on.

I have a 4Runner OR that I purchased OEM Rock Sliders before I got the 4Runner and was aware of the issue. I also have the unthreaded holes issue. I reached out to Westcot Designs to see if they would sell me their blind bolt kit. They declined. Does anyone know if these blind bolt kits would work on the OEM Rock Sliders? If so, what are the size and type of blind bolts that Westcot is using? I’ve seen on the internet blind bolt purveyors and I am hoping to order directly from them.

Can’t speak for westcot, but the oem bolts are 10mm. I’d probably go with something 1-2” long and the equivalent.

I used 8mm - 5/16” rivet nuts. There is some thickness to the jacket that is helping to plug that hole. Hope that helps some.

Just got off with CBI and they instructed me to fill out the following form. They are aware of the problem now and will be sending new hardware kits for those of us that have unthreaded frames

https://cbioffroadfab.com/warranty/

Spent a few hours this morning at my Toyota dealership to see if they could just resolve themselves but made no progress on that end

Messed that up 8 drives side, 7 passenger side threaded, Hope I can either add factory rock sliders or factory TRD running boards by just bolting to the threaded holes ?

I was able to find a "blind bolt" solution if anyone wants that instead of rivet nuts. I had the hardest time finding one for this application.

Do a quick search for "atc box bolt". That's the company and product.
Would post link, but not sure if against forum rules if not a "sponsor".

There were a couple of hard to reach areas I couldn't quite get the rivet nut like I wanted. Wish I would have found these bolts in the beginning. These worked so much better.

They are described as a structural steel expansion anchor for blind applications. I wound up going with their 1/4' size. It has a 2800lb load rating/4800lb sheer rating per bolt.

I wanted to try the 5/16' but I was worried the sleeve size at 9/16' was too big for the holes in the frame. Couldn't find my caliper to test it.

The 1/4 box bolt required a 18mm wrench and 10mm socket to install. Took about 3-5 min per bolt, but the rails aren't going anywhere now. Would definitely recommend these.

They just processed this and shipped my non-threaded hardware today

Regarding the CBI rails and the TRD OR. Getting the bolts through the warranty is the way to go. However, they were slow to respond and I got impatient, so I contacted ATC Specialty Products regarding there box bolts. The unthreaded holes measure 1/2”. They recommended 5/16” box bolt and said the holes needs to be drilled to 9/16”.
I have not received them yet. I’ll post how it works out.

Did you end up having to drill them out?

Anyone successfully install the OEM Trailhunter Rocksliders on another trim? Specifically a TRD ORP Hybrid.

I ordered the two parts from my dealer PT228-89251 and PT228-89252. It came with the installation hardware in the box. There are 8 10MM bolts per side.

I went to line them up on the frame, and I can clearly see what hole the bolt is supposed to go in, but on my frame there are no threads for said holes.
The dealership is just as perplexed. The internal toyota documentation shows that they should be there. The only thing you need to do is bolt them to the frame, but I can't.

I'm really wondering if Toyota only welds the threads on the Trailhunter and leaves the holes blank on the rest of the other trims.

Again, anyone have success with this mod? Thanks in advance!

Update:

I was finally able to get the OEM Rock Sliders installed on a TRD ORP Hybrid.

Here's what I did...

There's 16 total mount points needed to install these.

The very front two mounts (LH/RH) nearest to the front of the vehicle, did have the correct threads. I was able to bolt the supplied 10mm hardware in these two holes. These mount underneath the frame next to the front tires. (4 done)

The remaining 12 holes were all unfilled with any usable threads whatsoever. These are on the sides of the frame. As others have noted in the thread, there are some scattered threaded holes in the frame, but none of these lined up with what I needed to mount in my case.

I bought a rivet nut tool ($40-60) off amazon. I'd recommend getting one that is right angle as there are some really tight spaces way up underneath the frame and body that you'll have to install the rivet nut. The long handle ones just can't reach up under there. You won't have the clearance.

I went with 8MM Rivet nuts as I already had some 8MM bolts and washers from taking off the factory OEM running boards. I tried to use as many toyota parts as possible. But you'll need 12 8MM bolts and washers if you don't already have them.

I originally wanted 10MM as the factory rock slider comes with that size bolt, but the holes I needed to plug would not accept a 10MM rivet nut. I guess you could always drill it out some if that was your preference.

8MM just worked much easier for me.

Install the rivet nut in the holes that you need to plug and bolt them on. It seems to be holding very well. I stood on each rock slider and jumped up and down and didn't feel any movement of the sliders. Time will tell how well it holds up I guess.

I just ordered these and need to figure out the blind bolt sitation, but can you use these as a step? My wife is short and this is her daily so was hoping they are functional as a running board. Thanks!
