Hello!

I don't have one yet.. but I'm salivating in making a purchase at some point. I'm still not sure what trim to get. I'm one of those "posers" in the sense that this would be my first SUV ever but I do want something that can handle all sorts of things. I've driven mostly hatchbacks, coupes, and sedans in my lifetime.

As title states.. what are some options that can be added to a 4runner? I've heard of running boards and rock sliders as the best options so far. Are there any other items that could work?

Thank you so much in advance for any responses. I'm getting myself educated by the hour and I can't wait to join the enthusiast group!

I've got Amp Research power running boards on my Tundra, and they make entry and egress very easy for anybody that's fairly mobile. If you can walk up one or two stairs, you can get in my truck. It's a big truck though.

For 4Runner, it may also come down to how tall you are. At 5'11", I can slide straight into a 4Runner Sport or Limited and would likely remove any sort of running board unless I wanted sliders (for rock protection, you can't really step on them). Haven't been in an OffRoad or Pro yet, but they likely sit just high enough to make steps awkward LOL

I'm only 5'8" on a good day! I was looking at the power board option on the 4Runner. I might just go with that. The aftermarket bug is already teasing me! Thanks for your reply!

I like the Amp power steps because they drop down so much further than the fixed steps, but then retract up and out of the way so they don't catch on things. My truck is fairly tall though. With the step-in height of the more street oriented 4Runners, they would probably make it pretty awkward for me, but at 5'8"...Might be ideal for you.

I had been concerned about the longevity of them, but I've now had the truck (and steps) for over 12 years...They still work great.

We took off the Predator drop steps, but I think they do go lower than normal running boards. Might make it easier to step into the cab.

I don't do much off roading any more so I went with the Sport Premium trim with the predator steps. Not sure if it is lower than other trims or not. I am 5-10, and a partial amputee (no right foot) and have no problem getting in and out.

Thanks for all the replies! When it gets closer to my readiness, I'm gonna have to go to a dealership and see all the trims firsthand!

Excerpt I found on the site (Google search is nice sometimes!)

I think this is relevant.

1. oem power running boards (if you live in non snow states)
2. oem fixed running boards (if you live in snow states)
3. do not get sliders if you are concerned about entry/egress into the cabin (the primary job of a slider is to slide along rocks, not help you get into and out of a vehicle
4. if you are not offroading, get the avs system. reason being you can lower the vehicle another 1 in in height if you really need it for an elderly person

takes about 30 secs to drop to low setting from normal setting

Ohhh thanks much for the info!

I live in CA so it looks like option 1 is good! I will look into the AVS System also. Thanks for your response!

i know the difference in height on our tundra is like 2-3 inches from low to high. but you can only use it in park and the suspension will revert back to normal once you go above 8 mph
