We were essentially forced into a car buying decision by a deer. We had an ‘23 X5 and a deer decided to jump out in front on our way from the airport and insurance ended up totaling it out. That was the second X5 we had totaled in 3 years… so we were going to take a break from BMW.

So then it was time to look at all the options out there. We pretty much touched all the SUVs and landed on the Honda Passport/Pilot, Lexus RX/TX/GX, Volvo XC90, GMC Acadia, Chevy Traverse and Toyota Land Cruiser/Sequoia/Grand Highlander/4runner and Subaru Ascent/Forester

Going into it, I think the GMC Acadia was what my wife was really leaning towards… until she drove it, it’s a damn shame they put such a pitiful four-cylinder in there. Beautiful car inside and out, but within about two minutes of her driving it, she absolutely ruled it out. This naturally did the same for the Traverse.

as for the Lexus, she didn’t like all the piano black inside the TX. The RX drove nice, but we felt it was a little on the smaller side, and the pricing on PHEV was outrageous. The GX is really nice, but we would be on a similar waiting list, but it was a finalist.

For the Subaru, she didn’t like the way the forester drove, she did like the ascent but she liked others more so it was ruled out.

She really liked the Honda Pilot and Passport. The issue with the Pilot was it had the older infotainment, whereas the Passport had the new setup. I personally think the Passport has the better look, she she preferred the drive of the Pilot.

As for the Volvo, we’ve always loved the look and drive of the XC90… but we also loved the look (which hadn’t changed much) since we cross shopped it against the X5 the first time around in ‘22 and it was already in need of a refresh as it had been the same for years before then. We just couldn’t justify the cost, and the fact it’s probably gonna have a significant refresh in the very near future.

When it came to the Toyotas… she absolutely hates rounded air vents, so that eliminated the Land Cruiser without even taking it for a drive. She did not like the way the grand Highlander drove at all, and we had a chance to look at some lower trim 4Runners and she liked the look, feel, drive and seating position and were able to drive a hybrid on the Tacoma and another 4Runner at a different dealership so it was a finalist. We sat in the Sequoia and she really liked it, but just felt it was too big for what we needed right now.

So in the end, we were pretty much left with the two Hondas, Lexus GX and the 4Runner. One of the Toyota dealerships happened to call us and said they received a platinum and that was already pre-sold, but if we wanted to come in and look at it before it left a lot, they would let us.

After she got a chance to look at the platinum, we immediately put a deposit down. Now it’s the waiting game.

I appreciate the input! I've been in and out of 4Runners (and two Tundras) my whole life and always come back to them. Your wife sounds similar to me; I think checking one out in person will seal the deal.

It's a Toyota, you can't go wrong. Personally, it's a bit of jack of all trades that suits my needs for the next few years. I want to venture out and do more outdoor road trips, etc. But needed something that could haul a motorcycle on a rack. And wanted the back covered. I don't mind being a guinea pig for this 6th generation. Been a blast so far. Remember, you don't get a 4Runner for its fuel economy.

between owning a 4th gen in 2008 to 2016 and a 5th in 2016 to 2025 after 16 years of driving the same thing basically I was excited for the redesign and got rid of my 2016 for a 2025
@FoozGrind - You're my brother from another mother (or sister from another mister) from what i can tell.. I had a 2006/2014/2017/2019/2021 before I traded the '21 TRD Pro for my 6th gen.
The change in design was the main and the tech were really the main reasons.
I like having the sensors (though after driving one for that long, you learn exactly where your front and back corners are and can park anywhere). I used to fit that thing in a small townhouse garage.

One surprising thing.. My gas mileage sucks! I feel like I'm always filling up with this thing.
Most likely because I have a heavy foot, and I drive it like it's a 6.. I'm averaging about 14mpg.
The E load tires and larger wheels probably aren't helping.

The mudbath color - legit have zero idea on trims. Noticed mudbath was only available in TRD pro and that was that! Est delivery 6/23-7/7!

When I told my husband my plans, he just shook his head. He said that is the color he would have wanted anyways. (He’s currently in a Ford Raptor).

Test drove many through the years, The later models got bigger in size so in 2021 I was going to buy one until I test drove it at interstate speeds, Drove like jeep thought it could flip over with any correction of the wheel and gas mileage was not good. Bought the gen 6 SR5, gas mileage is great 24.6 so far with 1800 miles although 800 of that is highway the rest urban.

New styling in and out. New powertrain. I test drove the iForce and liked it but held out for the iForceMax and glad I did. Great torque and acceleration for a mid size SUV. Toyota dependability.

Hey everyone,

I’m currently driving a 4th gen and have been eyeing the new 6th gen 4Runner since its release. I’m about 90% sold on it, but would like to hear what pushed you to make the leap.

Appreciate any thoughts as I’m trying to figure out what I want to do!
The new drivetrain, especially the 2.4 liter turbo-4!
