It's usually quicker to just hold the Radio On/Off button for a couple seconds -- that resets the entertainment center and should initiate a new connection attempt, assuming you have it set to auto-connect. Much easier than digging through the Toyota menus to find your phone.

I’ll have to try this. There’s a known issue with iPhone 16s not connecting. I’ve been hard wired since like day 3 of ownership.

No issues with my 16 pro connecting, completely reliable. Make sure you don’t have other blutooth devices connected to the phone (e.g. AirPods, speakers, etc), when starting things up. watch for interference in the area - microwaves, smart home devices, etc. Makes sure your iPhone case doesn’t have any kind of metal in it, and that the phone isn’t in any kind of RFID blocking bag.

I’d also completely unpair both wired and wireless, and then only pair wireless.

No problems... here with 16 pro, we have multiple phones paired and usually it's just a matter of selecting which phone we want to be playing media.

So, I have to unpair from my watch every time? That’s kind of wonky!

I have two suggestions that may be helpful:

1. Toggle your iPhone into Airplane Mode momentarily (from Control Center), then back out again, and it will force Carplay to reconnect. Fastest option.

2. Press the Phone button on the steering wheel and it will bring up a screen where you can select your iPhone device and toggle the option to Use for Apple Carplay back on from the 14" touch screen. The car must be stopped while doing this.

See this quick video for details.

We aren’t flying a plane. You should be able to get in and just start driving.

I use the usb c plug on the side of the radio. Apple CarPlay works flawlessly and it keeps my phone charged while driving. You can remove the panel from behind the radio and run a 3’ usb c cord from the right side of the radio under some brackets behind the panel and to the mount (Offroam Mount). Tuck the extra wire in the space behind the radio and replace the panel.

I totally agree. I’m just trying to offer helpful suggestions to work around the issue until there’s a better solution from Toyota/Apple.
