I too use a wired connection. Works flawlessly. I always keep the phone updated too.
I used wired because I have the in-car hotspot. You cannot use wireless car play and the hotspot because carplay used wifi. I would like to run the cable behind the panel to the lower phone storage area.
Its a shame the usb-c ports in the lower console are charge only, no connection to the display.

I use the usb c plug on the side of the radio. Apple CarPlay works flawlessly and it keeps my phone charged while driving. You can remove the panel from behind the radio and run a 3’ usb c cord from the right side of the radio under some brackets behind the panel and to the mount (Offroam Mount). Tuck the extra wire in the space behind the radio and replace the panel.

Would you mind sharing some pics of how your wires look with the mod you did? Also what is your door system buttons and how is that affixed to your runner?

The remote for my garage door is mounted with Velcro on the dashboard. The cord I used is 3’ long and I have the extra coiled up under the panel behind the radio. Be careful removing the panel as the clips aren’t very strong and can break. Pop it up with a panel removal tool and do it on all sides instead of just popping it up on one side and pulling it up from that point.

There’s a setting on the iPhone under carplay-Enhanced Integration - toggle that off. When I did that, haven’t had connection issues. I have 16 pro max

Thank you! Any concern on the pinch of the cable or is it not that clamped down?

I have the same issue with Android auto. Sometimes it will disconnect randomly and won't connect back. It asks me to connect USB cable?

I have had my TRD ORP for a month and never had an issue until I read this post lol. I’ve recently have been experiencing apple car play to just randomly disconnect while driving. This has also just started since I’ve move to the public Beta of iOS 25 so I’m assuming it is related to that. Anyone else experiencing this?

What helped me was not having a Bluetooth connection. I only have car play paired with my phone and no Bluetooth. I have had no issues since doing that.

Not sure I understand. Are you using a cable? If not, I think BT and WiFi is needed to run carplay on your 4R screen.

Just started having this happen after updating iOS ' wifi connection interrupted' errors. Powering off the radio and phone both seem to solve it. I suspect it's an apple problem from the timing.

One thing I've noticed is that I seem to have more connection issues and audio skips when my phone is in my pocket -- I suspect being squeezed up against my left leg must block a bit of signal. Putting it on the charger in the dash seems to resolve it. Annoying that I still have to remove my phone from my pocket for wireless to work properly, but it's still better than plugging it in every time.

It also seems to skip a bit more when using satellite view with Google Maps -- probably because streaming those high def images takes up more bandwidth? Just an assumption. As a map and topography nerd I love having that satellite view wherever I go though, so I just always put my phone in the dash and generally don't have many issues other than the very occasional audio skip.
