This.
In the US that will also be annoying. I was hoping to use the Tesla network going forward, because EA has been a huge letdown. But for the foreseeable future, a good chunk of Tesla's network will be 400V. So then we're playing russian roulette on a road trip as to whether a particular leg...
Not sure I fully agree. We have had Tesla and non-Tesla EVs as well.
Currently a Taycan and Model X.
I would say:
The CCS to NACS or NACS to CCS adapters are both substantially larger and clumsier than the J1772 adapter for Tesla. That's not the same thing at all IMHO.
The TeslaTap doesn't...
Dunno. All the G-wagons I see around here are soccer moms/dads driving home->school->home.
The most offroading they brave is the gravel in the school parking lot and the incline coming down from Clyde Hill. I think they can handle 80 miles of range just fine.
;)
100% with you on that one.
Hoping this isn't final or that slight camouflage parts are making it look worse than it is.
On the other hand, I have yet to see a car that makes that look good...
Good news is that it looks to be confirmed that they are ditching the stupid transmission.
Bad news is that efficiency numbers are a bit disappointing (and with it range and weight).
Also doesn't look like they solved the UI issues. Willing to bet this is another "we changed the platform, now...
I guess I'm saying "he introduction of the first EV Macan could have warranted a larger redesign than just the "EV style" headlights and a different badge, and the "EV style lower rear bumper".
They are basically saying "EV->Taycan style headlights + Taycan style lower rear bumper".
That's a...
OK, I realize I'm wading into fire here. But here it goes:
IMHO is an anachronism in an EV. It serves to allow combustion engines to run at the right rpm.
Modern EV motors have tons of torque from the get-go and can spin way up efficiently.
I'd wager that the vast majority of EVs, even sports...
I'll withhold final judgement until I see it in person. But on pictures, to me it looks like a "Taycan theme" that got pasted on a Macan, without actually changing any of the metal.
Not a huge fan so far.
Do any of the reviews so far confirm whether this car ditches the 2 gear transmission?
On the other hand, we do charge our Model X with a 15amp 110v outlet in our car port just fine.
On longer road trips, we stop at a super charger. But the 40-50 miles we drive on an average day in the 'burbs can easily be done on a 110V.
(The Taycan gets the garage spot with the L2 :) )
Given that China is BMWs biggest market by far, I suspect they are designing for what they think folks in China want. Whether that matches actual Chinese tastes is a different matter.

Interestingly, no transmission. IMHO further confirmation that the transmission in our Taycans is an anomaly that will be forgotten with J2 or whatever the real successor platform is called.
I think all startups that don't already have cars on the road now and are manufacturing at scale are going to have a rough time going forward. Maybe with the exception of Rivian, both because they don't have an imminent competitor just yet, and because they have Amazon backing them.
I think...
