No updates. My 4Runner is just sitting in the basement of the dealership.Any updates on your situation?
I got 3800 on TH and nothing as you describe OP. I've had a few hiccups here and there, but nothing jarring or abnormal feel. I did switch from 4wd to 2wd with my foot on the brake (stopped) and it felt like a mule kicked the truck...not nice.... I guess I learned then to switch while moving slow instead...
Definitely something wrong with the Transmission in your case.
Also on another note, I aways wait for the engine rpms to drop below 1 K before I shift from P to R or D , otherwise it has a "small" launch feel...
Man, sorry you are going through that... hope it gets replaced and resolved soon.No updates. My 4Runner is just sitting in the basement of the dealership.
I come to a complete stop, put it into neutral, and then change to 4WD. Even with my transmission issues it’s always been smooth as butter doing it that way.
It seems very similar to my transfer case shifting, so hope that's normal. I'm used to Manual T case shifters ( 1st -3rd gens) and they were clunky in their nature as well. For me switching from 2h to 4h is always smooth and no thunk but there is a very harsh thunk from 4h to 2h even when moving slow, I find you have to accelerate for it to be smooth but even then its only sometimes. This is all done in a straight line on pavement, but when Im off road it doesnt thunk at all switching either way. Just what I've noticed.
Also anyone else car gets "jerky"at around 5mph? like the rpm needle is pulsing up and down between the 1k mark. This only happens during traffic. It might be engine braking but idk.
Interesting.... Mine will drop rpms in 30-45 secs or so in the AM.... Also It's hot as hell in Texas right now....Also mines also lurches on cold starts every morning, I anticipate it and need to really brake before shifting, but yea letting it idle a bit (over 2-3 mins or below 1k rpm) does reduce it significantly.
I haven’t personally checked my transmission fluid, but according to my advisor, the tech that initially worked on my 4Runner supposedly did and “it looks good”.Has anyone checked their transmission fluid level? My transmission feels wonky as hell at low speeds with some harsh shifts quite frequently. I have noticed that when I turn my AC off the transmission feels 80% better. I asked my dealer to check my oil level during my 5k visit and they refused.
I had a 19 Tacoma so I’m comfortable checking the level on a “sealed” unit but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea if I end up actually having transmission issues in the future the dealer will try to blame it on me checking the oil.
You would have to remove all the fluid to check the level. To put it back in you would need a pump. There is no dip stick on their toyota for the transmision fluid.Has anyone checked their transmission fluid level?
