Is there a way to turn off the battery preconditioning? (Looked in the manual but it wasn't obvious).
Reason being, when setting a destination via the navigation, range drops significanlty if it needs to charge on route on account of it pre-conditioning the battery ready for charge. On a recent long journey, range dropped by 50 miles so I used google instead of Porsche navigation.
When I arrived at the Ionity charging station, I still got between 75kwh and 100kwh which was ample to charge whilst I had my lunch break. As all 6 stations were occupied , I do wonder if I'd have been able to receive a higher charge rate anyway

There is no way to control it. I think this is the first such inquiry, but it makes sense.
The only thing you can do to help is to enable Battery Friendly charging, which is the only and always on mode I use then hypothetically the battery will not be preheated so aggressively for the fastest charging possible.

Try to decrease the setting of minimum SOC at your destination. This is the way to manually by pass it

The decrease in range might be due to anticipated preconditioning, but not necessarily. By inputting the destination, the software also could reduce the range estimate due to attributes specific to the route, e.g., elevation change, speed limits, etc. Without a destination specified, the range estimate is general in nature.

This is, I think, a benefit because you want the most accurate estimate of range when heading to a destination.

I'm glad that this question is the other way around--too many people spend way too much time trying to force preconditioning, when it really doesn't matter in most cases. It's just one of a hundred different small optimization tricks designed into the car. It also increases the cost of DC fast charging by $1-2 per charge if you pay per kW instead of per minute.

That said, 50 miles is way more than what a preconditioning cycle can eat up (~3-4kW), so there are other factors in play there in that calculation. It will also not precondition when you are low on charge/range, or if the battery is already warm enough.

The only way to avoid preconditioning entirely is not to set an EV charger as a destination, but personally I'd just let the car do its thing.

Preconditioning will not reduce range by 50 miles.
Maybe the fact that you planned to charge, simply made it plan to get there with some amount left in the battery?
Maybe something else in the trip or conditions affected estimated range?

Preconditioning is not an end-all -- if anything, it's more of a "don't cool as much" than a "spend energy heating" -- but I've not seen it be all that different for the chargers I've tried.

The EA "balanced" chargers giving 80 kW when the name plate says 350 is much more of a problem ... especially since the included "free" plan only pays for 30 minutes, no matter the charging rate.
