Probably a dumb question but I understand that you have to unbolt/move the TRD skid plate to get access to the oil filter. Do dealers charge more because of that extra step? I have no plans to change my own oil.

I put a TRD skid plate on mine, replacing the felt OEM. I have not seen any good looking aftermarket models.

Did you have to remove the air dam, or will the skid plate install with the air dam in place?

Probably not, but I promise you at least one of the bolts will be missing or cross threaded the very first oil change they do. If not the first, it will happen on the 2nd.

wait a minute..." felt OEM " ???
i wouldnt say “felt” , but it may very well be against a boulder/big rock if you happen to drive/skid across it.
It is hard plastic, plenty thick, it’ll protect from smaller rocks flying at it, but i wouldnt rely too much on it if you off-road a lot. For mall crawler, it’ll be fine

I don't think it is suitable for a mall crawler. The highway or the freeway can present many dangerous objects that the felt/cardboard/ cannot adequately defend against. It is a cheap out for fuel regulations. I personally went with this.

Is that aluminum or steel? looking unique with the blue color lettering for sure!

i feel the oem plate is alright, of course alum or steel plate would be better, no doubt. But imho, daily drive, city & highway, the plastic plate is decent enough, but again, to each of its own 👍🏽

Ok...you had me worried lol, but yeah I am swapping mine out for either the TRD skid plate or possibly the LC skid plate at my first opportunity.

Same I feel that the hard plastic in the off-road premium is sufficient for every day and highway, but I bought the rival just for peace of mind

It is the heavy aluminum skid plate that was produced for the 2024 LC250. The Platinum trim didn't even get the hard plastic that came with the Off Road Premium. The Platinum had a small felt/cardboard thing that offers minimal anything. It weighs about 28 lbs, and is a viable upgrade for underneath protection. All of my prior 4runners had metal plates of some sort for protection.
