I will next try that flat hand, lower, rear one-third method next but would get lots of handprints/oils on the car — instead of just one finger with the manual opening method.

Yeah, it's not the method I'd have chosen.

When you couldn't get it open earlier, did you try to open it from the inside? The little car icon in the lower-left corner of the PCM pulls up the open buttons for the liftgate, frunk, and both charge port doors.

It would be nice if the car were smart enough to detect when you've pulled into a charging station and automatically open it, but that would be pretty advanced.

Thank you. Our fellow forum member (“rjf”) nicely send me a text an hour ago recommending using the PCM method. He uses it exclusively — for he too had been challenged at times by trying to open it by pushing on the charging port door. I had completely forgotten about the PCM option. I finishing charging tonight in 1 hours 20 and then I will test that method. Guessing it will become my sole method from now on.

I too thought it was a swipe like the frunk!

The manual says "Lay your hand flat on the rear third of the charging port door." and that feels more reliable, but I've not used this after it's closed to see how fast it opens again.
I think it opens right away. Our Plug&Charge didn't work yet the day after we bought the car and drove it home 1000 miles, so I had to use the app. That sometimes took too me too long to activate and the door would close before I was ready to plug in. I remember just hand-palming it again and it would open right back up, even seconds after closing.

With my home charger, this does indeed seem to work with no delay. I need to also try it on a non-EA DC charger, as that's where I've needed to replug most often.

Now I know this is not a Jedi hand wave, and more of a High Five touch at the correct place, this will be much less annoying. (Also, the back of the hand works too, to reduce marks on the paint, and is easier when standing right over it)

No rattles, no sunroof, doors shut with reassuring thunk (no one mentioned “soft close” in the UK) and the rocker needs a firm touch - all good so far.. Agree with hand signal for frunk so I’ve given up trying and use fob instead.
