Norway Became an EV Paradise, Now It's Imposing a Weight Tax and Bringing Back the VAT

The budget proposed for 2023 includes the reintroduction of the 25% VAT for the sum paid for a new EV that exceeds the NOK 500,000 ($46,661/€47,907) threshold. So, if your new base-spec Porsche Taycan 4S Sport Turismo is around NOK 1,000,000 ($93,236/€95,800), you’ll soon have to add an extra NOK 125,000 ($11,659/€11,970) to the vehicle’s final price if the budget proposal passes.

With all the "windfall" O&G revenue the Norwegian state is generating from current energy prices you'd think reintroducing VAT on EVs would not be a priority.

On a related note, it will be interesting to see whether UK will extend the currently low BiK and other tax benefits for EV owners post 2024/2025.

They will have to with reducing road tax and levy on fuel will cost them millions.

If the BIK goes up I’ll buy the car from my company at the blue book value.

The moment they screw with BIK the salary sacrifice boom is instantly dead. It needs to jump to 10% from the current 2% for it to cease to be advantageous for me.
