I took delivery of my Macan 4 EV in early December at the LA Experience Center. Here’s what I “experienced.”

The day of delivery, in the morning, my wife and I first got a total of 90 minutes on the track in the Macan Turbo (45 minutes each). This consists of (1) running laps on a small road course behind a pace vehicle, a 911S driven by a driving instructor, (2) launch-mode laps on a separate, straight track, (3) wet skid plate runs that kicks out the rear end, simulating ice loss of control and recovery in a straight line, (4) wet skid pad runs around a circular track, simulating loss of control and recovery in a turn, and (5) runs up a wet, polished concrete hill, simulating loss of control and power modulation to continue climbing. The track laps were going as hard as I wanted and showed the vehicle’s immense performance (my wife had a leisurely drive). The launch control runs were awesome, but a distinct memory was feeling momentarily disoriented when using full braking in a simulated emergency stop. Lunch at their cafe was paid by Porsche; the meal and service were outstanding. In the afternoon, we took delivery, which included going over the car and setting up our accounts in it. They took pictures and made the delivery special in several, other ways. Overall, it was a great experience. Normally that would have been the end of it.

A few months earlier, however, I had received a gift card for buying the Macan. So before going for the delivery I added a driving experience on the day after my delivery date. I chose to drive the Taycan S vs other models (just a choice I made). There is a wide variety of models from which to choose. The second day (half day or so, 90 minutes on the track) was similar to the morning of the delivery day, just with a different model. Track traffic was light that day (both days). I was driving the Taycan so hard and continuously that near the end of the 90 minutes I thought, “This is really hard work; I’m getting sloppy; time to stop.” I ended the session a bit early, but might not have done so if I hadn’t driven hard the day before as well. We stayed to have lunch, and then headed out of town that afternoon for the drive home.
