Do UK Porsche Centres ever offer a choice of registration number?

My car has now 'left the port of shipment'.
I asked my (UK) Porsche Centre if they get issued with batch registration numbers prior to registering vehicles, and if so, if I could have the opportunity of choosing my car’s registration number from what they had available?

The reply was that my car's registration would be " ... automatically generated through our admin team as they are sent straight to them."

Has anyone had experience of this? Does the reply seem reasonable, or could they be trying to fob me off?

It's not a deal-breaker, but it might be nice to get the opportunity of choosing from what's available, if that's still a thing.

My dealership had a list of available registration numbers from which to select. It was a basic list but at least you had the opportunity to find something that could mean something to you.

I've only bought a handful of cars in the UK, all BMWs, but was given a choice of registration numbers from the selection they had. Sounds like your dealer couldn't be bothered.

I’ve brought a few Porsches and have been given the choice of registrations only once back in 2019. 2020, 2021, they said it wasn’t an option due to Covid, then for 2022 wasn’t on great terms due with the dealership so didn’t even ask. 2023 was no longer an option.

This is the best example I've heard where COVID has been used as an excuse to not do something.
