Ha, ha, welcome to the 21st century car software conundrum - how long is the manufacturer on the hook to maintain the onboard software? 4 years, 8 years, 10 years, 20 years, 40 years? Nobody knows, and in a lot of circumstances nobody thought about it before they shipped the car out. It's a...
Automotive manufacturers need to make EV's compelling for people to buy, not count on some government legislation to force the sale of EV's. Elon proved it long ago, if you want to sell EV's, you build ones which people want over ICE car. Governments can help by providing incentives for EV...
Maybe I'm getting old, but when I see these announcements, I just think to myself "sure, let's see what actually gets delivered and when", given the typical disparity of announced features vs. delivered features. Once Macan EV shows up, I will definitely go test drive it. If it's good, it might...
Agreed, but if speed and acceleration with high budget limits is the overarching goal, should you not consider power more power vs. less power and gear box? Why was less power with gear box chosen over more power? More power solution yielded better result in a Model S Plaid which accelerates...
Merging into high speed highway lanes, coming off the ramp and choosing to merge into the high speed lane rather than build up speed in the slow lane first. Yes, I could just cut-off people in the fast, lane, but I prefer to merge and accelerate quickly, so the car behind doesn't have to slow...
So instead of KISS, Porsche uses KICS ethos? I'm imagining engineering office posters already - "What have you complexified today?" :CWL: Perhaps Honda hired Porsche engineers for this this commercial:
In all seriousness, I get wanting to push the envelope for performance/speed, but doing it...
While you are correct about Normal mode, I figured out a while back to stop using it for this reason, so using mostly Sport and SportPlus. There is one drawback to this - in first gear at ~50mph (whcih happens to be my cruising speed on one of my common routes) the transmission makes an annoying...
Consistent location of charging ports has been an issue at public chargers as different cars need to park in different spots relative to the charger. There should be a standard, driver's side rear or passenger side front for DC charging, and front or rear for AC charging. If only one port...
I think these headlights might be the Taycan refresh headlights. I must say, I prefer the current Taycan headlights and overall front bumper - looks more finished, designed, complete. The new Macan front end looks a bit unfinished, like it still has camouflage and missing some front apron parts...
Power lag/gap during hard acceleration as the car is shifting down. Some people like the gear shift feeling, as evidenced by some car makers actually patenting simulating gear shift by briefly cutting power to the EV electric motors at certain speeds. Personally, I prefer the instant...
70 speed limit, dashed line, maybe he was just trying to pass a caravan quickly. ;)
One of my pet peeves, people driving 10mph+ under the speed limit, 15+ under uphill, then downhill, where the passing is finally allowed, they go 10+ over the limit. If you need to pass 4 or more cars like this...
I suspect this was an exaggeration from the officer. It's more of a magnitude of damage vs. resources committed to solve the crime, with violent crimes being considered higher damage. I guarantee if a gang swiped a hundred million euros from banking machines across the country for example...
They don't need metadata from cell towers. Porsche servers get almost continuous car status. I bet emergency assistance signal got activated too once airbags deployed. The police just needs to know which car to look at for damage.
As for property crimes not being high on the list of priorities...
I bet the Police could subpoena the information from Porsche, which Taycan sedan in the LA area, or even California, reported airbag deployment or other errors +/- 30 minutes of the timestamp on the video. Unlikely there have been that many Taycans that crashed during that hour.
Lots of porch pirates in your neighborhood? Perhaps a progressive city government which enacts laws and policies to disallow charging porch pirates with any crimes, because that's just a form of social justice?
Please no, the Taycan physical mirrors are the only way I can back it into my garage or any tight parking spaces. If I had to rely on Porsche cameras, it would be near impossible.
As @Tooney mentioned, with chargers not being 100% reliable, it's good to keep a buffer. Also, charging every 100-140 miles lets you charge faster than 150-200. My fastest road tripping so far was 689 miles in 11hrs 13 minutes, averaging 63mph. Stopping every 100-130 miles, winter weather, some...
