Curious if anyone else feels the same but I just cant get over how terrible this new "fish eye" lens is when using the back up camera. The yellow curved line is also just terrible and not very accurate. When I try to back into a parking lot it looks as if you are hitting the vehicle next to you and you honestly have to ignore the edges of the camera. No clue why they started doing this with the cameras.

I wonder if the lift + wheels require a recalibration of the camera?

Incase you aren't aware, you can change the mode of the lens by pushing the option on the screen. It is bottom left corner for the 8 inch screen by the volume knob. Not sure on the 14 inch. Can also change the line setup with the right side touch option.

Yep, the lift and bigger tires probably needs a recalibration. Compared to a vehicle that just has a backup camera alone, I imagine they had to use a different rear camera (wider field of view, more geometric distortion) in order to stitch its view together with the 2 sides and the front camera for the 360 view. And they may have just used the same rear camera model even on trims that don't have the 360 view?

Does your 4runner have PVM and MTM (i.e. what trim level do you have)? If you have an off road model, you might try using the rear camera in MTM mode for reverse parking. That has a slightly different view than the PVM. Or maybe use the 360 overhead view of the rear if you have at least PVM? But yeah, I think the lift and bigger tires is likely to affect the distortion of the viewing angle in an additional way compared to just the distortion of the wider angle lens itself.

I'm very happy with mine. It's way better (wider field of vision and brighter, doen't get washed out by sun light) than the 2021 Explorer I traded in last month.

My rear backup camera works fine and the front camera is good too.

I wonder if it's a calibration issue, you can se in this shot where the telephone pole on the back right just disappears where the right and back cameras are stitched, It also feels like the outline of the car is much smaller than real life.

My backup camera seems to be better than my daughters backup camera on her 2019 SR5. As for the bendy yellow line i backup and park perfectly every time, also backing out of my driveway the lines are spot on accurate bc my driveway has a sharp curve and i miss the grass every time.
These cameras remind me of the backup cams on Lexus cars compared to GM/Ford backup cams they are leaps and bounds better.

either calibration issue or straight up driver error

toyota 100% forgot / ignored recalibrating the rear camera to compensate for OME lift on trailhunter. I've noticed similar distortion after some owners swapped to heritage grill upfront which relocated the camera higher. Also resolution on backup camera at night suuuuuucks.
