I have been charging my 2024 Macan ev turbo ever since I took delivery last October using the Tesla home wall charger I had before with an adaptor. I have been able to charge with no significant issues. However I realized the Tesla charger have occasionally been giving a red light over the green lights suggesting a grounding fault. The fault didn’t seem to hinder the charging. However I am concerned that might not be healthy long term for the life of the battery. I decided to get a better proper charger but the porche charger is out of stock. The electrician who installed my Tesla charger is suggesting a wallbox pulsar pulse charger he said should work. However my porche guy said it is not a porche product and did not recommend it and also online it had mixed reviews. So if porche charger is not available what do people who buy porche evs use??

Any J1772 charger will work. Just make sure the amperage of your circuit is sufficient for the charging rate you want to achieve. Which isn't hard when the Macan tops out at 11 kW; this is a 60A circuit with 48A wall charger (they always derate by 20% because Safety.)

Also, the ground fault is typically not bad for the battery -- it's typically a safety thing. If there's a ground fault, AND there's some other kind of wiring thing going wrong with the charger, THEN it might not automatically get cut off by your breaker panel. Usually there's sufficient other safety switches to prevent a fire or electrocution if this should happen. Usually.

I have had good performance out of my Chargepoint wall charger. The model I have is too old and not being sold anymore, but their upgraded Flex charger seems just as good: https://amzn.to/4orupXp

tesla charger is fine get your wiring checked

ev chargers (called EVSE's) are not in fact chargers - calling them chargers is a common misconception but everyone understand why we do that - they are in fact fancy on/off switches for safety that either let raw-power flow or stop it from following (they are a glorified extension cable with safety features, but no actual charging functionality) - therefore the AC power that "hits" your Macan's OBC (On board chargers) is exactly the same as the power from any other EVSE - the only difference between EVSE's is their relative robustness and some non-charging related features (apps, statistics, connectivity, etc) - but the actual charging of an EV is no different for any of them.

the porsche EVSE's have a terrible reputation and are even more finicky than the Tesla chargers about electrical issues - many many Taycan owners gave up on the Porsche chargers in frustration and when with non-Porsche EVSE's and are much happier for it.

your sales-person/service guy is full of BS - EV chargers are not vendor or vehicle specific nor can they be otherwise you would not be able to charge at public charger like ChargePoint (which Prosche just added to the Porsche charging service with great fan fare)…

all eVSE's have numerous safeties built in beyond the breaker - and should not let any circuit faults escalate into a problem - and as far as the battery is concerned _ANY_ EVSE is no different that directly connecting your OBC to the electrical system of your home - since there is no filtering/manipulation of the AC current being delivered to the EVSE - it is simply a pass through device - it's a water valve - NOT a water filter…if bad water flows into the EVSE, bad water will flow out, if good water flows into the EVSE good water will flow out - the EVSE does not and can not "change" the characteristics of the AC power-flow - it simply is an on/off switch…

here is a brief history of the Prosche/Audi EVSE's - it's not a quality product and remains problematic
https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/t...uide-to-the-porsche-evse-pmc-pmcc-pwcc.13886/

if using a non-porsche EVSE would cause problems then why did Porsche add support for 1000's of nation wide ChargePoint chargers (non of which are porsche EVSE's)
https://www.macanevowners.com/forum...t-integration-to-myporsche-app-gain-me.20947/

this link is guidance for new owners about installing a home charger and which one to choose
https://www.macanevowners.com/forum...owner-what-home-charger-evse-do-i-want.18162/

Adapters are not that complex, they are infact "passive" electronic devices and are simply mapping one wire connector to another wire connector, but can not and do not "change" anything other than the physical shape of the connector…

if you're having electrical problems with your EVSE I'd venture to suggest it's rarely the EVSE and more often the fault of the wiring/junctionbox/home wiring snafu's - at least that the historical average

the Porsche EVSE(s) is no different than the Tesla, Chargepoint, Emphoria, ClipperCreek/Enhpase, etc…they are all J-1772/ISO compliant EVSE's that offer "raw AC power flow' to the EV they are plugged into…they are _NOT_ vendor specific, nor are they vehicle specific, and by design they can not be - otherwise you would not be able to use public charging infrastructure.

I hope this helps

Hi to All.

i fully agree there’s nothing special with Porsche branded home wall charger. I’ve been charging at ChargePoint charges at my apartment and NYC workplace garage. That workplace garage just switched to Tesla Charger and I didn’t even have to buy and adapter because the Tesla charger installed replacing the prior EV charging network (called ampUp) units comes with a built in adapter you can use right at the charging station. Finally at my primary home, while I waited 2 yrs for Porsche to learn about EVs with the Taycan foibles, I bought and drove 29.5k miles over 24 months flawlessly in a factory ordered fully loaded Ford Mach E 4w with extended battery. During that time I had purchased Ford’s home wall charger at delivery of the Mach E, and had it professionally installed. Flawless with the Ford of course, but also flawless from the 1st day I drove my Macan 4 home from the dealer silvery and started charging at home!

I hope you’ll enjoy your charging both locally and on road trips. No Porsche branded charger will improve your experience compared what's already out there. 👍
