Electric Charge Ports Won’t Open

I’ve had my Macan 4s EV for a few weeks and have charged it a couple of times without issue. The car is fitted with electric charging ports. Today I attempted to open the charge ports and neither would open either physically or via the PCM Menu which says. ‘Function not available’ when selecting either the AC or DC port. I left the car for about 6 hours and returned with the same outcome. Has anyone encountered a similar issue?

Hi, according to my Porsche dealership, there's a mechanism to release the chargng cable if it's stuck (via the boot/trunk) however there's no manual release for the chatging ports. On the Taycan there was a tool top force the door open, this isn't the case with the Macan EV.

Make sure you go before you drain the battery too much that you don have the range to get there!

The electric door is definitely wonky and unreliable in the cold. My sales guy strongly discouraged me from ordering mine with this option (even though I really wanted it). Hopefully it’s just a bunch of software tweaks relating to the sensors, but who knows…

@Grahamtaylor how did you resolve this? My car is in the same state. Nothing I try will open the charge ports.

Hi @MattU. Ultimately the dealership fixed it. They were somewhat vague about how they resolved it but claimed it was a software problem which required an update to fix the fault. Luckily I had about an 80% SOC so it wasn’t a big deal to get it to them and back before the car died.

Taycan went through a phase of this in the early days.

I've been fortunate with mine and on 2 cars over 4 years have been reliable so far.

A 12v battery disconnect to force a hard reboot might help.

Hopefully it's a software glitch and not a failed charge port.

Don’t use the emergency plug release, it has nothing to do with the doors.

Thanks @Grahamtaylor , @PrudentOcean , @W1NGE. II've got enough charge to get to the dealer. Will followup here with what they say. Hopefully they give me confidence that this won't happen again or that there is a workaround if it does. This issue does not give me confidence in doing an extended trip with the car.

Porsche dealership here fixed the issue. The explanation was that there was a manufacturing issue and the doors were not seated correctly. Hopefully this is a one-off in my case and doesn't show up on other cars.
