That issue will be addressed and had nothing to do with Apple not opening up, there was simple not an API, many developers work this way, they introduced this first to see if car manufactures would embrace it, why start making an API if only a handful of cars supported it, now it is and so accoridng to the documentation it will be there …
Also you need to remember not many cars supported that anyway, BMW introduced HUD Apple Maps capability in their high end car and the dual support for every vehicle is standard for not even 2 years … I had a friend buying a BMW not that long ago and the HUD does not support Apple Maps Navigation, he was pissed …
So patience it will come, in the mean time Apple Maps is better than Waze, it took them a while, but now I prefer it in every way, especially in iOS 18, Waze feels like 10 years old and not up to date anymore … but it really depends on the region, in the US, Apple Maps is like next level …
Many development shops create an API for internal app use when doing prototypes and alpha, beta prduct. It's a simple thing then to open it up for 3'rd party integration.

Can any of you confirm, with the AR HUD, are you seeing the road lines and all the additional information just like when you do the demo mode? I get the arrows when using Porsche nav, and occassionally a red line will pop up if I get close to a line, but mostly just standard HUD data (Speedo, limit, nav - the 3 customizable boxes basically, none of the "AR" stuff I see in the demo). All the Augmented settings are selected in settings. Feels like I am missing something obvious here...

Try driving very close behind a car, you will see a nice yellow triangle!
Adjust the tolerance of the ACC when on the highway and you will see a representation of it mapped on the road.
Foloow a car when acc is activated, you will see a line behind the car which is in front of you.

There must be a reason for the HUD to activate and show something 😊

I've saw the yellow triangle, and noticed how if follows the car in front if too close.

When you do the AR Demo in the car, it shows a lot more information on all the time, from road lines to the active lane keep green dots, road signs, cars, etc. I see the green suggested lines show up briefly when engaging adaptive cruise, but they quickly go away. I heard the AR HUD could be distracting, but with almost all of this "extra" info hidden, it functions mostly like a standard HUD in any other car.

Maybe I was expecting more. I have the bottom row of info as seen below, but generally do not see the other data displayed, or if so just briefly.

I believe what you are seeing is operation as intended. I wouldn't want to be looking at all that other stuff all the time...talk about distracting! I never looked at the demo, but there's one more thing on the display that stays on: the energy consumption/recuperation semi-circles. I just have the default setup as it came.
