I'm looking to purchase a mobile charger for my Macan 4 just in case my wall charger ever plays up.

The Porsche Mobile Charger looks decent, and claims 'up to 7.2 kWh', but costs £1,131.

I've seen Macan 2.3 kWh chargers fitted with domestic 3-pin plugs (and 5 m cable) from a specialist, UK-based supplier (EV Extras) for £130.

As this would be used exclusively in emergency situations, Is there a compelling reason to consider paying nearly 9 times as much for the higher-spec. Porsche-branded product?

13A 3 pin plug will provide glacially slow charging speeds (0.1 mile / minute) and you'd only ever use in a dire emergency.

Better to have the option of a 32A tail along with the 13A option.

Any EVSE which provides both will suffice IMHO.

Many thanks for your advice.

I do have a Hypervolt wall charger at home, so the mobile one would indeed be for emergencies.

You only get 2.3kw/h with the Porsche one on a 3-pin plug, so for that purpose the cheaper one would do the same.

If you upgrade the home plugs to a 32A the mobile charger is definitely capable of reaching 7Kw/h (I do use the one from the taycan on the macan at that speed on a daily basis)

That's great. Many thanks.
