Hello,
as I did not find anything in the search I was wondering if there are fellow Taycan owners who also have a Porsche NFT?
I just bought one last night. It pictures not a Taycan but a 911 of course. It still looks quite bland and boring. But this is only because customization will happen over the next months to make each token totally unique.

Besides the excitement about my very first NFT at all, I really look forward to (allegedly) „money can’t buy“ experiences IRL that are planned for NFT holders in the different markets.

Hope to hear from some other Taycan and NFT enthusiasts!

NFT's like all crypto are a scam and mostly worthless like Elivis collectors plates - It saddens me to see any legitimate company such as Porsche involved.

I respectfully disagree. A lot of “crypto” is a scam, but I think it’s lazy and factually incorrect to label everything a scam. There are plenty of legitimate use cases and lots of projects with significant utility.

I won’t be buying Porsche NFTs anytime soon but it will be interesting to see what they do with the technology

it's all a SCAM - it's not lazy - there are no legitimate uses for Crypto - and the only characteristic of Crypto that is attractive is that it avoids internation/national money laundering laws.

I actually know quite a bit about Crypto - and it's 100% a scam

https://www.fool.com/the-ascent/cry...ptocurrency-should-die-in-a-fire-is-he-right/

https://web3isgoinggreat.com/

anything you can do with Crypto you can do some other way easily and using far fewer resources (crypto burns the equivalent of small countries worth of electricity to do it's thing) - it SOLVES _NO PROBLEMS_ other than avoiding money laundering laws and legal obstacles…there is nothing you can do with crypto that you haven't been able to do for decades via existing banking mechanisms.

it is a technical monstrosity and meets the very definition of a ponzi scheme - NFT's were invented to have something "to do with your crypto" - but again NFT's don't accomplish anything you couldn't already do (but an NFT requires crypto to obtain the NFT)…so that creates a market for crypto.

Porsche sullying it's name with Crypto will not go well for it…

every "problem" Crypto solves it already solves with cheaper and existing mechanisms that don't consume mega-watts of compute power and are reliable and less impactful on the environment.

It’s a scam, is this Porsche issued? Can’t imagine they want to be involved in this mess.

Wow.

Let's set aside the energy consumption debate first. Ethereum moved to Proof-of-stake last year and does not consume significant amounts of energy anymore. Neither does any of the other L1 blockchains apart from Bitcoin. So the energy consumption claim you bring up has nothing to do with NFT's or decentralized applications since no current NFT platform is built on Proof-of-work blockchains (except Ordinals, but that's not really relevant).

And the term ponzi-scheme is thrown around a lot but most people don't really know what it means. Bitcoin, for example, has no issuer and is classified as a commodity by the SEC. It simply can't be a ponzi scheme. Some try to argue that because some people speculate in the price of crypto assets that also somehow makes it a ponzi scheme. Yet, the same can be said for stocks, gold, classic cars and art. There will always be speculators who simply buy things with the goal of selling it on to someone else at a higher price later on.

Next, there are plenty of blockchain related projects with utility. The Helium project provides a global decentralized LoRa network. Something that has been attempted before with The Things network but that never had an incentive model for hotspot owners and never really worked out. There is now an entire eco system of LoRa devices around the globe utilizing the Helium network, providing everything from water quality monitoring to asset tracking. It currently powers my entire smart home solution and is significantly cheaper than commercial alternatives.

Bitcoin and the Lighting network currently functions as a much more superior remittance plattform compared to Western Union and the likes, which typically take 10-20% cut of all transactions and provide financial services to millions of unbanked people around the world.

There are other projects that provide a decentralized alternative to Amazon AWS and NFT's as a concept has the potential to dethrone actual scams such as Tickermaster.

Saying a Porsche NFT's is a scam is like saying collectible football cards are a scam.

That said there are plenty of scams to be found in the crypto eco system, but not everything there is a scam. People who label an entire technology with such a broad brush will go down the same way as the mountains of people who thought the internet and cell phones had no use other than to facilitate criminal activity and distribute porn.

It's totally fair to criticize specific blockchain projects. The eco system is currently a free-for-all making it hard to separate the music from the noise. However, saying it's all a scam does nothing but indicate a fundamental lack of understanding of the underlying technology.

In fairness, if you get some utility out of looking at a picture of a car or a monkey with your meta-eyemuffs on, then fair enough to pay for it. Personally i've no interest and attach no value to it, just like i wouldn't pay a zillion pounds to hang the Mona Lisa on my wall either, because i think that is rubbish too!

The scammy bit only kicks in when 'investors' are tricked into buying stuff on the promise it will go up in value, rather than buying something they might enjoy. Bit like buying a classic car i guess.

A totally reasonable take. I dont really understand art in general to be honest.

I was on the allowlist for the mint but chickened out when I thought I was buying a Porsche Configurator picture with no utility other than "cool things to come!" Moreover, 0.911 ETH (~$1500 USD) seemed financially imprudent at that time. Fast forward 4 weeks, and I kinda wish I'd minted 2 NFTs -- one to keep and one to sell to cover the cost of both!

I'm annoyed that the utility has just now been announced. Are all these experiences actually $0 for Pioneers / NFT holders?

Wtf? :CWL:

OP, we gotta know, how much did you pay for this piece of digital art?

Oh, and having done consulting for a number of big players in the crypto space, I’m 100 percent with daveo on this. Total fucking useless scam vehicles. The only people evangelizing crypto are scammers and fools. It’s not going anywhere though, because the world has way too much of both of them.

Ok, everyone call me a fool then. I don't care. :CWL:

I paid now a bit more than 2 ETH for the NFT. So, yes, if you had bought two when they were minted, one could have paid for the other.

And beyond the possibility for customisation in the upcoming months to make my every own and very unique NFT the real-life events (according to Porsche: "money can't buy" experiences) were what tipped me over to make the purchase.

And as I happen to live more or less between Stuttgart and Hockenheimring (PEC) I will try to take part in several of those. I might even go to the one in Berlin if I can arrange it in my schedule.

As was mentioned before: this is a (digital) collectible. If you look at other collectibles like baseball trading cards, they are also just a piece of printed paper worth much more than the material value.

I guess before and during the minting there was a big "shitstorm" about this Porsche NFT, which is because IMHO the target groups of NFTs (digital natives) and Porsche only have a very, very tiny intersection.

That is why in the end only a bit more 2300 ones were minted instead of the original plan of 7500.
But the rarer they are, the better for me as a holder. :)

We will see in a few years or decades if this was a scam or the beginning of a new era...?!

Today, I listened to the second "ask me anything" session on Discord.
And they said, said events will give 15 to 25 NFT holders each (depending on the type of event) the opportunity to attend on a first come, first serve basis. In total, there are some 180 spots to be distributed. For those events, Porsche will pay for everything (including hotel) apart from the travel to the venue. But they would even pick one up at the destination airport for instance.
Apart from that all NFT holders are invited to a big 75 years of Porsche celebration at Hockenheimring on June 10th/11th, 2023.

Don’t even worry about it. There are only a few highly opinionated people giving you shit here. I enjoy crypto. There is plenty of utility depending on which ones. Of course there are other ways to accomplish the same thing but you can say that about anything. Enjoy your NFT and the special events that come along with it. I hope you keep posting about it over time.
