Hi All,

What is this for in the storage area in the mid section? Is the little picture for you to store your keys there.
I don't think it's for wireless charging as that's the compartment above.

🧐

It's where to put your fob to be recognized by the car if the fob battery is dead.

The location in the front shelf of the centre console (marked with a logo) is used to start the car as part of an unlock/drive/lock scenario when the vehicle key remote doesn't work e.g, because the battery is exhausted.

The pair of emergency keys supplied are NOT used to gain access to the car e.g., emergency release of the doors. Their main function is to lock/unlock the glovebox. They can also be used to lock doors using a mechanism that is on the side of doors that is not accessible from outside.

If the vehicle key remote doesn't work the vehicle key remote can be used to unlock the car using a combination of pulling on the driver (or passenger) door handle five times and then quickly placing the key over the VIN on the windscreen. The same procedure cannot be used to lock the doors.

If the vehicle key remote doesn't work , the emergency key can be used to lock individual doors but again the same procedure can't be used to unlock the doors.

If the vehicle key remote doesn't work, the car can be started by first placing the vehicle remote key in the front shelf of the centre console, pressing the brake and then the power button.

These individual procedures are described (in the English printed Good to Know - Driver's Manual) on pages 24-25 for Opening and Closing and page 79-80 for Driving. Also on page 19 for Opening and Closing (for changing the battery in the vehicle key).

HINT: three sections of the manual should really be cross-referenced e.g. after gaining access, how to start the car and conversely, having driven the car, how to lock/unlock it and how to replace the battery, when the battery is exhausted.

It doesn't help that the manual is probably in the glovebox when you are locked out and the vehicle key remote doesn't work e.g, because the battery is exhausted because most owners may not already be familiar with the procedures they have not previously used until the battery becomes exhausted.

HINT: alternative way of locking/unlocking the car (may NOT be available in an emergency) is to use the lock and unlock within the My Porsche App. These do need internet access to work, so may not work in a remote area, in an underground carpark or if the My Porsche Service (Server) is not available. NB there can be a Secondary User that can assist with unlocking the vehicle.

HINT: simplest way to avoid problems is to purchase a spare CR2032 battery and keep it in the centre armrest (in a plastic container) and be familiar with the battery swap procedure, so that it can be used as soon as it becomes known that the battery is exhausted. After swapping over to the new battery, it should be a priority to get another spare CR2032 battery.

And there's a slot on the inner surface of the glovebox door to store one of these keys if you wish.
