It’s looking likely that some amount of “reciprocal” tariff increase will be enacted for US-bound cars from the EU in the coming weeks. Currently the EU has a 10% tariff on US-made cars whereas the US has a 2.5% tariff on EU-made cars. While there is some debate about the EU lowering their import tariff to match ours, my instinct is that we are going to strike first and negotiate second.

I am expecting delivery early April. Will be interesting to see the degree to which Porsche NA / dealership seeks to pass along this additional cost that was not contemplated in my purchase agreement (which they have the right to do).

I am planning to sit tight until the action is announced this week before reaching out to my SA. Will share what I learn.

For those in a similar position, would be great to know how you are thinking about this and how the dialogue with your dealership unfolds.
My conversation will be simple. When I ordered, I agreed to pay a certain price, and have not asked for discounts, nor will I tolerate any increases. Anything different from what we agreed to will be a breach of our agreement so a prompt refund of any deposits will be due.

I’m in the same boat… My 4S is almost to Panama then has to go to San Diego to clear customs then transport to Arizona. I started looking at local on the ground inventory as a backup as i won’t pay the extra tax if it happens… I’m keeping my fingers crossed that none of us have to deal with this. It will be more than 5 months since I placed the order

It’s been more than ten months for me.

I contacted my dealer last March, got an allocation in July for delivery late December or early January. Car was built in November and missed a transporter, got on one in December. Reached San Diego this morning. Needs to make another short trip to Long Beach, then by road to the dealer.

Wow. Even after you got the allocation it has been a very long time…. Glad it arrived at the SD port and should avoid any potentially new tariffs.

This is one reason I took my car off the lot in November...I don't trust that there won't be some effect on prices soon...same with the $7,500 EV incentive...that's can't last long in this environment.

I think the long delay between allocation and build was caused by shortages of some components (acoustic and thermal insulated glass, rear-wheel steering) and the severe flooding that put one of Porsche’s aluminum alloy suppliers out of business for an extended period during the summer.

Mine has been stuck in port (Benicia) for a bit. Originally planned at the dealer on Jan 31, but most recent ETA is now Feb 21. Apparently related to updates/recalls. I have never had a Porsche clear port quickly, so I am not too surprised or worried unless some sudden tariff is applied.

I assumed the transporter would make a stop in Long Beach (the scheduled stops for the Horizon Ray are not available that I could find), but she just left San Diego and is now on her way to Benicia. So the car needs to be trucked from San Diego to Los Angeles.

Delivery was March 28th (which I never believed)...now the app says April 15.
I certainly do not want to pay a tariff.

My Macan also stuck at Benicia for about the same time. SA said ATE is by the end of month.
Do you have any other details what updates/recalls they are fixing? I worry a bit as it seems that many got their cars immediately after arriving to Benicia. It seems like our cars are ‘problematic’ in some way.

The headlight brightness recall affected a limited number of cars, so those manufactured before or after the affected range wouldn’t need to go through the required update at the port before they are cleared for import.

If you have the VIN of your car you can go to the NHTSA website and see if there are any recall campaigns that affect your vehicle.

Thanks PrudentOcean.
After running the VIN, I got “0 unrepaired recalls”. I wonder if the recalls have been repaired. Is there a way to see the repaired recalls?

No need to worry, it’s just the normal Porsche lottery at port. Sometimes a vehicle will clear quickly, other times it feels like forever. Our Macan’s might be awaiting some minor part (like key FOB’s and computer chips post-COVID), or the port is simply backed up. When it takes really long time PCNA sends a gift.

I see. Let’s hope these are indeed minor hiccups at the port.
