I thought I’d share my 3 month Macan 4 experience
The Macan 4 is plenty fast as my daily driver, faster than the AMG it replaced. The extra 20 miles range vs 4S enables some frequent round trips without charging. Love the smooth power delivery and low end torque of electric. My range varies between 300 to over 350 miles. If not for range concerns I would have purchased the 4S as, with my spec it was only few thousand more. I like that the car looks and feels “normal” vs screaming look-at-me-I’m-an-electric-car! I like the clean interior look vs so many overly busy interiors.
Spec Choices:
Aventurine Green - I was disappointed they dropped Copper Ruby for MY26. Aventurine looks great in person and was a better choice for me as it does not show the dirt as much.
14-way Seats - very comfortable but not that supportive when cornering fast. I’d recommend sport seats on a faster variant.
Summer Wood Accents: nice grain and texture. I did not get the passenger screen, so you get some wood accent in that area too which looks much better than in the renders.
Black/Beige full leather: it looks great but the bolster is already turning blue from where it rubs my jeans on entry/exit. If they had had the cognac-like color you see in other Porsche models I would have optioned that.
Leather Center Console Surround: I didn’t want to look at a hard black plastic center console. The leather surround has cool stitching (I had mine be beige to match the stitching elsewhere) and makes the cabin feel more premium. Happy with the choice.
Compass - I’m not going to track it and so didn’t get the chronograph. It fills the dash space and the info is sometimes useful. Happy with choice but nothing there would probably be OK too.
20” S wheels: I thought the ride was noticeably better/quieter than with the larger 21” wheels I test drove (that was on a MY25, possible MY26 has tweaked suspension). They look good, are plenty sticky, and get better range. Happy with the choice.
Cabin filter: unclear so far if this does much. Might skip next time.
115 volt plug: unsure I will ever use this due to very limited wattage. Might skip next time.
ACC + Drive Assist: works very well. Following / slowing / stopping / starting much better than our Audi’s ACC. Auto lane holding and lane change works well and nice for highway cruising. I like that it detects/stops-at stop signs on surface streets.
Digital Key is awesome. I love not carrying keys, and that I don’t need to lock, unlock or turn on/off the car.
3D Park Assist - works well. I don’t use the 3D rotation feature, but like when it automatically changes to camera views like "transparent hood" or warns about tire obstacles. I have not yet felt the need to try auto parking.
Specs Skipped:
Skipped HUD - I know it’s awesome, but I don’t like HUDs and prefer the clean dash without a big projector hump. I like that CarPlay nav can be shown on the main dash or in the right binnacle.
Skipped Passenger Display - looks fine without it. My passenger owns the center screen and I look primarily at the digital dash.
Skipped RAS - I agonized over this. I don’t know what I’m missing, but love how it drives now. No issues maneuvering or parking in tight areas, making U turns, etc.
Skipped Insulated Gas - skipped because I live where the phone signal is marginal and high heat is not an issue, so the value would be additional quiet. I measured highway sound levels between my old car (72 db) and the new one (63 db) - wow what a difference. Even much quieter than our Audi. Happily no interior rattles or squeaks as anything would be noticeable.
Gripes:
Steering control mutes, instead of pausing, streaming music/podcasts/audio books. WTF??
App sometimes shows Privacy Mode Active, even when connectivity services are enabled.
Digital Key has occasionally unlocked the car for me, but the car then reported no key present. After rescinding my wife’s digital key, it became reliable.
I don’t have the trailer hitch, but there is still a big open cutout for it that could collect debris. I’d rather that have been covered.
All in all I am very happy with the car and my choices.
