Car charged before optimized charging schedule

We have the Macan set up to charge from 12am-6am every night on optimized charging. It’s worked great every night since owning the car.

however, last night. We got notified at 9pm that the car was fully charged. The car somehow bypassed the optimized charging schedule & charged immediately once plugged in instead of waiting.

We haven’t changed anything in the settings & the schedule has never changed. What would have caused the car to charge before the optimized charging start time ?

Do you have a departure time set or did you toggle “Direct Charging” to on? If Direct charging is on or there is no departure time, your car will charge immediately. In the screenshot it is set correctly to delay charge before 5AM. Also, you should see a pulsating blue light and “charging paused”

Quick update. It seems the one night was a fluke as it hasn’t happened again since… The departure is set properly & direct charging has never been toggled on. The car was around 55% the night it started charging before the set departure time.

A question as i can't seem to find an answer from searching.

I understand that if you plug the car in and you have a departure time set AND a preferred optimized charging schedule set AND direct charging is turned off, the car will follow these rules and charge during your set time period up to your set SOC.

But if i didn't have an optimized charging schedule set, turn off direct charging but set a departure time for say 7am the next morning, is the car smart enough to delay charging the until closer to 7am? Or will it charge directly?

Example: I have departure set to 7am. Turned off direct charging. I'm at 75% SOC. My preferred SOC is 80%. I return home from work in the evening at 8pm and plug in the charger. Does it charge the additional 5% SOC say one hour before 7am the next morning even without the optimized charging schedule set?

We have a thread in the forums about this. I've seen my Macan 4 EV charge a little after being plugged in and then finish the charge in the morning prior to the departure time. But I don't think we know when it happens and when it doesn't.

This is really nerdy but given the lack of explanation of how the charging works, I took matters into my own hands.

I've already built a solution that uses Porche's iOS app to estimate the voltage level of the car's battery in conjunction with the programmable API of my EVSE to completely control what time my Macan EV charges. I now have the ability to use the car as a dump load for solar.
