Electric Macan EV First road trip... My 4s...GREAT START / efficiency better than expected! 1000016097

Good day to all.

I previously mentioned that I was going to be taking my car from Central New Jersey down to Florida, and was very interested to see how the efficiency was on the 4s. As you can see above, a little bit of traffic, but consumption was just fantastic! As an FYI, the weather was clear, about 60 degrees (15 c), so pretty perfect conditions.

My 4S has the 20 inch wheels, optioned with Summer tires. Specifically, Michelin Sport Pilot EV tires.

Also, there have been multiple reports of people with the 21 and 22 inch tires having an unsettled ride, a little bouncy. I find the 20 inch tires to ride very smoothly.

One other quick observation. The HUD, especially when used in conjunction with the Porsche navigation, is pretty wild. No question it will take some getting used to. But the data contained within is pretty much everything you need while navigating. As I'm still not used to it, I would look down to the center of the dash for the map information, and would even occasionally look to the center stack to look there (old habits die hard).

Much more driving to come, I am getting on the Auto Train later today. For those not familiar, the Auto Train here in the USA is a single route between Lorton Virginia and Sanford Florida. The route is a little over 800 miles, it will leave the station this afternoon at 4:00 p.m., and should arrive in Florida tomorrow at approximately 9:00 a.m.

Once in Florida will be driving another good chunk of miles down towards Boca Raton.

More updates to come, happy to answer any questions.

We have been considering a Macan EV. Currently have a Taycan 4S and a Model Y. We have used the Auto Train a couple of times to come to Fort Lauderdale from the DC area. Interested in hearing your experience with the AT.

I’m interested in your consumption in the Macan EV for the trip from Sanford to Boca. We did the reverse trip in our Model Y last weekend. We started from 100% and were able to travel 212 miles before we stopped at a Supercharger at 15%.

The display showed 287 Wh/m for the trip, which works out to 3.48 m/kWh and extrapolated range of 249 miles on a full charge. Of course, this was on FL highways, so the speeds were generally between 75-80.

I was actually surprised the Model Y was this efficient at these speeds. But, the real challenge with Teslas are the charging curves, which fall off a cliff above 50% SOC and are down to less than 50 Kw by 80% SOC. So, the car schedules charging sessions about every 140-150 miles on the highway. In our Taycan I can often charge to 90% within 30 min at an EV charger and go 180-190 miles between charges.

So, do you have updates consumption figures for the Macan on the FL leg of your trip?

Well - this MIGHT be the first reply EVER from the Auto Train! I'm 4:30 in - we left Lorton 15 minutes early - and are supposed to arrive Sanford 1 hour early. We shall see. For those unaware - the train ride is approximately 18-19 hours.

I will absolutely report back how the leg to Boca goes. I was able to change my consumption display on the dash - so it's now my preferred Miles / KWh. Further - I stayed in Reston last night - and was able to fully charge the car. So - once they deliver my car, I'm ready to roll....

Sorry, I misread the earlier post and thought you had already done the AT. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the AT and your consumption. Have a safe trip.

OK... Made the trip from Sanford to Boca Raton... Weather was warm, 83 (28 c), and I used the AC at 70 degrees. Not as good as Day 1, but still very pleased....
